Afternoon all, hoping you guys can offer some pointers. I've spent the majority of my photographic time doing sports and action work for which I have the Canon 70-200 2.8L is, Canon 100-400L and Canon 1.4x TC. I've always had a smattering of shorter lenses but not much used.
The other lenses I have are :-
Canon 50 1.8
Canon 85 1.8
Canon 17-40L
Canon 24-105L F4

I'm now starting to do some walk about photography and just enjoying it a bit rather than doing events so using the shorter lenses a bit more but I'm trying to consolidate a little and am also shooting different sports now like wheelchair basketball and sitting volleyball so a short fast zoom lens would be nice.
I'm intending to get the Tamron 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD and part ex the 24-105L which will be my short zoom for sports and walkabout lens, but wondering whether to throw the 17-40 in as part ex as well. I picked it up for the first time in years Wednesday and am wondering if I do part ex that as well if I'd miss that extra few mm down the line what do you think?

Oops almost forgot, I'm using a Canon 70D with the above.

Thanks for looking.

why not just get sigma 17-50 f/2.8 (or Canon) or 18-35 f/1.8, get rid of 50, 17-40 and 24-105 and keep the cash? Presuming you will not buy FF any time soon, but even so the lot is far from Canon's best.

The 24-70 is pretty much a perfect length for under the basket at wheelchair basketball and at the net in sitting volleyball, the 17-50 wouldn't give me the reach out to half court. Now if there was a 24-105 2.8 I'd snap some ones arm off though ;)
The 50/85 1.8 are for those times the gyms so dark every stop counts just to get the shot.

Just really debating if I may miss the 17-40 down the line or the £300ish I'll get for it part ex is worth it....it's just all subjective, I think I'm just putting it out there to try and get things straight in my head more than anything I guess.
