Since my operation I have lost my mojo for getting out and taking shots.

So I am now starting to get about again and thinking about photo's. I am also thinking of swapping my equipment to Canon.

What do people think about the Canon 5D mark 2 ?.

What are you swapping from?

The 5d2 is a good camera, but its 9 years old now. I'd be looking at 5d3 or 6d depending on budget.

I have one and personally I think its fine, it is not the worlds best for rapid shooting ( spray and Pray)but for static or slow moving shots its OK.
Has live view, invaluable, does video ( can't comment as never used it), all in all its very good FF camera for the £6-700 mark.
I have sold/ selling all my Canon Gear , there is some in the classifieds, but I am keeping the 5D Mk2 together with a TS-E lens as it does me fine for architecture shots

I have all Nikon at the mo, 24-70 & 70-200 on a 800D and as you say I may go for a Mark 3.

Weight / Heavy ?

Having given this some thought since my first post and seen the kit you have at the moment I would ask what do you hope to gain by switching to Canon.
As F1.2 says weight is similar on both systems and you will certainly loose money replacing the Nikkor Lenses with the Canon L equivalent.
Many people, and I include myself, have switched from DSLR to mirrorless.
My reason for doing it was weight and portability, the Canon Gear I had was too heavy and stayed at home.
I switched to Fuji ( XT-1, the XT-2 was not released then ) , bought a few Fuji lenses, saved a lot of weight and now take my camera with me.
It is worth investigating what's available in mirrorless as you might be pleasantly surprised

I don't think it is any heavier than the Nikon D800.
If you have a D800 at the moment. I think a 5D2 is a slight backwards step, it's 4 years older. You would be better served by a 5D3 or 6D.
Looking at a spec comparison, the 5D3 is a better match to the D800.

What is it that the D800 doesn't do that you think the 5D2 will give you?

I went from 5D2 to D800 and I certainly wouldn't entertain the idea of going back. I couldn't cope with going back to the 5D2's AF system for fast moving objects. What do you think a 5D2 would give you in terms of mojo that the D800 doesn't?

This does seem odd? We're assuming you mean you own a Nikon d800, not a Canon 800d that you own (hense the move to Canon) as your reply said 800d?

I'm not sure what you think that would achieve? While the 5d mk2 is great and always will be, it's nearly a decade old and I don't know how going to a lower spec (particularly sensor and AF wise) would help you get your mojo back?

Thanks. I did change my mind and was going to go for a Mark 3, then I thought about all the Nikon accessories I was also going to have to change, so in the end decided to stay with my Nikon.

Thanks, see my reply above.

I did not think the Canon would do anything that the Nikon wouldn't, it's just a thought that maybe with a change of equipment I might get my mojo back.
