Hi all,
I've heard you can swap a laptop disc drive for an extra hard drive- is this possible? If so what do I need? My laptop is a Sony Vaio.

Thanks Steve.

Sorry I didn't word that correctly - I meant change the Disc-player for an extra hard drive! Ie like having an external drive on a PC

If you follow the link, and depending on your version of laptop, they normally do have instructions for replacing your optical drive for a hard drive, I followed ifixit instructions to replace the optical drive with a hard drive on my Macbook.

Maybe a better idea is to just get a USB 2.0 or 3.0 external hard drive to plug in, you get to keep your optical drive too then.
Unless laptops have changed recently it's doubtful you'll be able to integrate a HDD in an optical drive bay (unless your model has a proprietary swap out) My old toshiba had a swappable FDD/ DVD drive unit
