As if she is not bad enough on the channel 5 photo show she was on This Morning sharing her vast knowledge and came out with the following gem when trying to describe getting a person in the distance sharp whilst keeping the foreground out of focus

"Use manual focus because if you use autofocus it will always keep the foreground sharp"

Anybody care to explain what she was trying to say

I imagine she meant that if you don't have a select point that you have chosen to focus on, the option when all focus points are lit up would then focus on the thing closest I expect.

EDIT: when I used to use the option for all focus points being lit up (which is very rare) I've noticed it does pick its focus point and that usually ends up being closer)

Although why she didn't chose a single point focus I don't know.

Translation

"I don't understand focus points and DOF, so go manual" *smile*, *show teeth*, *tilt head*

I really think she is out of her comfort zone here.:bonk:

Who cares she could be talking about pencils for all i care :nuts::nuts:

she looks just grrrrrrreat

Dave:thumbs:

Alternative translation:

"I'm talking to all those none photographer's who won't know what DOF is so I'll say how to pick your focus point without baffling them with the technicalities"

This morning is hardly aimed at the members of this forum!

Trouble with chat shows is they want quick, simple sound-bites. If Suzi had started going deep into potential pitfalls of auto focus and selection points, it wouldnt be a chatshow anymore. Infact it might not even be considered TV anymore.

Edit - So people think Floozy Suzi's a babe then?
Each to their own i guess.

Get your coat love :coat:

She should have stuck to being a pit commentator for the British Super Bikes!

Great thighs though, hope the wife dont see this.:thumbs::love:

This sort of thing always happens when the mainstream get hold of something. Radio One had a 'gaming week' a while back. Their gaming expert informed us that 'second life' was one of his favourite games and then went on to describe said game as set an a post apocalyptic wasteland and it became apparent he was talking about Half Life 2. The rest of the discussion was no better.

Thats....just.....

When you see how TV (all mainstream journalism really) manages to explain something you know about in a way that you don't understand doesn't that suggest the rest of the rubbish they spout is equally vapid and confused?

I just generally disregard it, after all it's just a version of 'opium of the people'.

She should have stayed in the pit lane where she cut her teeth (and actually knew what she was talking about).

I laugh at you all  so now the telly has photography as it's next 'hobby'. Gardening, decorating houses, buying houses, building houses, cooking; you getting the feel? I'm sure we'll have sewing and knitting at some point. All cheap TV.

You should hear me squawking every time someone appears on the box on a horse! :$

The problem is they choose a presenter without considering that they know b****r all about the subject, ok she not bad to look at (and I wouldn't throw her out at 3 in the morning either) but as a photographer she not exactly Ansel Adams, and giving out rubbish advice isn't really going to help beginner photographers get the hang of things.

As someone new to photography I sat down to watch her Channel 5 program quite excited to learn a few things, I was really disappointed as they never seem to give any proper details on how to control your camera 3 episodes in I'm not sure I have learnt anything I didn't already know or was kind of common sense.

Suzi is great at wearing catsuits though !
Perhaps she should leave the technical stuff to somebody else though.

i think she actually does know a fair bit about photography, but lets face it the technical side of photography isn't very interesting to alot of people who are getting into photography

I know a fair bit about particle physics but you wouldn't want me teaching you how to build a particle accelerator... trust me you really wouldn't!
If your going to teach somebody something it really helps if you know what your talking about, and she clearly doesn't.

suzie perry=yum :love::love::love::love::love:

im so glad my wife doesnt read these forums!

According to her tweets she enjoyed talking about photography this morning.

The end result will be thousands of people still taking crap pics and making us slightly less am ones look all the more better!!

I wonder how many will break the focusing of their cameras trying to manual focus without switching auto focus off first???

I can't even understand why she is presenting 'how to take stunning pictures', not that there is much to present really... She really has no idea about photography and I personally can't stand her either to be honest.
