weekly Susiejb 52 in 2016 Celebrate

Hi Susie, I like the lighting it just emphasises the nib, slight DoF problem but it doesn't detract too much, very good indeed

I like it, it's a great choice of subject and the lighting really brings out the colours. I have to look hard to notice the focus.

Double post.

Like the angled composition and for me the writing seems to be in focus and I don't mind the very shallow DOF making the nib slightly soft. Often with macro/close up shots I've found I have had to make a choice as to what I want sharp.

My only slight comment would be that on my screen I cannot see the dark bit of the pen from the background which makes it look a bit like a nib on it's own with the patterned bits laid out (hope that makes sense). May well be the calibration on my monitor though.

Actually I don't mind the DoF as is, the nib, is the important part, and you've showcased it well IMO Susie

Really nice pic, love the darkness with the shinning pen :)

Thank you Sam :)

Nice subject for old,, the rust really gives it punch.

Nice pen, does look a bit soft, the thing is with the raynox it will not make an image like this sharp, what were the setting with raynox?

It is a nice lmage tho:)

Thanks Walter unfortunately I don't have any exif data on that one ...and I've no hope of remembering it :)

Lovely photograph. The shiny metal against the dark background looks amazing. Liz

Thank you Liz:)

Hi Susie, now thats excellent. brilliantly set up and the lighting is spot on. Good luck completing your 52

Thanks Lee....I'm looking forward to the year ahead :)

Another excellent image, Susie. Love the lighting and reflection off the nib and am afraid I can't criticise at all in this case! :)

Thank you Ian :)

Ooooo That is a great Susie, yes the DoF is a tad out, but that is very picky, a great idea, well set up and perfect lighting for me ::clap

Thank you DK :)

Hi Allan and thank you :)

Personally I think Great dof and sharpness of the nib, perhaps it could be brightened a little but I really like it :)

Thanks Chris :)

Very nice Susie - lovely writing instrument and like the angled composition and lighting which really brings the nib out. The DoF may be a tad out but doesn't distract from a really nice image :)

Thanks Jon :)

Thanks Steve ...yes that was really bugging me too, in fact I did give it another try yesterday but it didn't come any better, I'm slightly obsessed with black backgrounds being really black which doesn't help :)

Love the colors and the way the nib stands out.

Thanks Nigel :)

Thank you Cobra :)

You have conveyed a nice sense of the opulence of using a pen like that.

Really like the pen nib shot Susie, lighting is spot on and it conveys an olde worlde sense of protocol especially when you consider that today's major method of communication is a phone keyboard :)

N A I L E D it Susie.

Hope the rest of your 52 is up to this standard matey :)

Oooooh thanks Brian ....I hope so :)

Cool contrast and sharpness in this - an elegant shot of an elegant weapon! Great interpretation of the theme - the metal shines in this shot.

Well done on the 2015 52 and best wishes for the 2016.

Any tips for the newbie?

Thank you Simon, really appreciate that ....I think it will be me asking you for tips ....I still don't know what I'm doing :)

Hi Susie Cracking shot love it, if you were selling fountain pens this picture has just sold it to me.

it looked very spooky on a dull day, but yesterday was glorious sunshine so I didn't get the spooky effect but it's still an impressive sight.
Isn't that always the case Susie - you wait all week for the sun to come out and then when you want a dull day it's cracking the flags  As you rightly say though, it's still an impressive sight and I really like the close up in #2.

Beautiful shot of the pen - I love everything about it, the subject, angle, composition and dof. I think the focus on the nib is just right  My OH has a thing about using a fountain pen for filling in forms too :)

Metal: super job! Subtle portrayal of the chassis colours works well with the dark background and low key here

Thanks Jason :)

Thank you Elaine ...it's not just me and pens then :)

Well gave up on anything serious this week ...all my ideas came to nothing ...my insect eating plants are dead till the spring, no spiders outside in webs, I did catch a spider last night but the battery was flat in my camera and I had to let him go, and the weathers rubbish to go out soooo I decided on the ridiculous instead. Some of you may recall my Ted featuring last year, so I decided to get him out again, I sat them on top of my cooker and took a photo, and I added the rest PP, which was good fun as it's ages since I did any real fiddling about ....I really enjoyed doing it.

:D The things we do for this thread
Don't we just

That is really very good Susie, I'm not surprised you enjoyed doing it, very nicely set up, good strong colours and ooooooh so creepy, the knife and blood make me want to :runaway:

... been waiting for your spiders & stuff etc ... though if anyone can do it susie can.

but, wait, what's this ... teddies, ransom note. gaffer tape and bloody kitchen knife? .. oh yes

Floor's a bit iffy, but the rest is perfect. Love the brickwork, wish I had a studio like that.

Hi Susie, well this is a side of you I have not seen, I am quite scared, nicely done

Love this. Will never think of little ted and big ted from TV's Playschool the same way again. Love the ransom/ramson note and the lighting. It took me a while to notice the droplets of blood. They really do change a sweet funny photo into a much darker image.

Ta d00d ....I did it all in our old friend Pic Monkey ....I haven't used that brick wall effect before....I like it ...I agree the floor is a bit rubbish I should have spent a bit more time on it ....good fun though, and ages since I did so much PP.

Thanks Allan ...looks as though this week has sparked everyone's imagination.

Thanks Debbie ....I did wait until the grandsons had gone home to do it :)

Hi Susie.

Love your old shot. Sad to see boats left to that state.

Sadly your METAL shot isn't loading for me, so I'll come back to that.

And CAPTIVE.....Sweet Jesus!!!.....someone call the police!!!

The poor teddies are certainly going through it this week :D
Nicely set up. And nice photo chopping too Susie
