I made sushi for supper tonight, I liked the results....

Ooh - looks nice, although I don't think I could bring myself to eat raw fish (I'm only just sampling the cooked version :lol: ). That curly green thing looks like a caterpillar crawled onto the tray :eek:
 
2nd one would be good if you didnt have to cut the plate short.

Was a program on the other week and they reckoned that 1in 8 or something portions of sushi is infected with parasites :puke:

I might be wrong, but don't the Japanese have the greatest life expectancy worldwide? The oldest living person is certainly Japanese...

Anyhoo, looking good! I struggle to get an even // thin layer of rice on Nori - any tips?
 
japan is certainly up there with quite a few but i had a quick google and they aint top.

there are definately loads of sites about the sushi parasites though

Spread it when the rice is slightly warm and use the back of the wooden spoon. Make sure you cut the Nori before making the rolls, all the rolls above but one used 2/3 of a sheet.

I make it with the kids and they love it...

As for bacteria, I have sushi regularly, both take away and home made and never have a problem. I have the odd take away curry and my stomach is in pieces the following day...

That's probably my problem - I let the rice stand and cool before working with it - will try it this way next time!

Must remember warm rice - was always told to cool it completely which gives pants results

I was told that Sushi was the type of rice with the fish not the fish dish itself.

Sushi is Japanese for "with rice" and can have raw fish in it but doesn't always. Sashimi is slices of raw fish on their own - that's what's on the salad on my pics...

Bad sushi (from supermarkets or sandwich bars) is usually best avoided. Good sushi is delicious.:)

never tried raw fish, maybe something for the future...
 
if any one is at all hesitant about sushi just try it. I don't eat fish but strangely I quite enjoyed sushi.

can't agree with japan on the whole though. whale 'research' my *rse
 
its just the Jap's make a claim they're slaughtering protected animals in the name of research yet the whole world and its dog know thats utter toss. they just can them up and sell the parts to glue factories and make-up factories. disgusting if you ask me. can't agree with it on any level.
 
Completely with you on that one - haven't another country decided that they would like ot recomence 'research' as well?
 
I'd like to commence research in the japanese as a culture. unfortunately this means taking specimens for dissection and analysis. several hundred. thousand. every week.
