Yes
Stealing heavily from our Midlands friends, a stuffiness free, non-anorak and most of all DIGITAL camera club type arrangement has been suggested by a couple of us - any interested parties please shout and we'll see if its one to pursue :)

I'm interested

Me too I'd be up for this
Paul

Count me in.

Will scout round for some possible venues. Would be nice to get somewhere better than an old cold scout hut.

Good man

All the best with it JonnyReb.

In a week that we decided to go ahead and do it, we have had a press release in a local paper, a reporter wanting to do a piece in another local paper and so much work for the committee that you wouldnt believe. Spare nights for photography arent happenning at the moment but hoping in 1 weeks time we will be up and running and even better times will be ahead.

If you ever want to talk about the logistics of setting the club up, then get in touch and I will help you out.

i'm not far from frimley and would be interested

Excellent - thanks peeps. I'll put a spreadsheet together and add some details as we go along :)

I'm only in Woking... so not far
(I'll be honest - finding much spare time can be a bit of a problem at times?)

But keep me posted...

yep! count me in. would be a good way to get to see parts of the county too, as im new to this "surrey" milarky! i lived 24 years in portsmouth so i was somewhat "institutionalized" to that area.

if you dont mind a dog coming along that is???

A flying visit from Wales may happen from time to time, I'm in London on business quite often. Neil

Would be good to see you there mate :)

Im up for this, I'm near Fleet in Hampshire

Guys - I'm blown away by the response so far and really enthused!!!

I do need some help and support in this though..... Can anyone interested in helping out with the scoping of the club, including taking on responsibility in some form (and meeting for a beer or two;) ) PM me with contact details so we can get this on the road.

cheers

Jon

PM sent, bottle of wine open, chilli cooking away - not a bad end to a week!

I am pleased that us "carrot crunching" worcestershire folk have inspired you to form your own club, as Lee had indicated on our original thread, we were not getting out of our existing PS what we desired and recently we have had an influx of NEW members who were all digital users.

The club did not seem to be happy to move with the times so we took the bold decision to form our own club, Mike has outlined what we have managed to do in a week and it is credit to all involved as they all wish for it to be a success.

Last Friday evening we took the decision to go for this with 7 members, a week on we now have 13 confirmed members and as a result of a press release sent to the towns local newspapers (who both printed our stories) we also have a number or prospective members who will be coming along to our first "public meeting" on the 13th.

The local arts council have been approached for some assistance in fund raising along with the Midlands Counties Photography Federation and numerous others.

The easy bit has been done the tough bit is making sure we have an interesting club that will appeal to all members needs and allow us to enjoy our hobby etc....

Good luck with your venture and we look forward to our first Midlands v South competition in the future, maybe we could even do an exchange meet, we could take you to areas of local photography interest up here (plenty of sheep) and vice versa.

I have to say - I didn't realise how many of us actually live in this area! It feels like this is gathering some momentum Jon :D

Thanks Richard - being a Herefordian any comp would bring out my schizophrenia nicely :)

The hard(and easy) work is still to be done and i have a few local clubs to infiltrate for ideas - I'm sure we'll be asking for guiadnce from you guys too.

Jon - Nice to see quite a big response - I wouldn't say I'm known for my oranisational skills (think p!ss up & brewery) but if I can help in some way I will try to do so - when you sort out a meet to discuss what direction the SHBDCC goes in I will happily be there (even if there is no beer involved )
Paul

Do you mean you would have to own a digital camera to belong to this or does it also mean that you can be a film user but produce your pictures digitally on a PC/MAC using Photogshop or whatever?

Hi Kandy - I guess what is meant is that its an antidote to film orientated clubs that are a bit sniffy about digital users - we're not going to close the door on film shooters, but the emphasis is on digital. Frankly, the more the merrier.

I've got almost terminal man-flu at the mo but will be dusting off my thinking and drinking brain in the near future to take this idea further :D

Hope you feel better soon

I belong to Brancaster photography club and reckon I'm about the only one left with a film camera :'( Most of the East Anglian Federation of clubs now have a very high number of digital users which is all to the good of photography I guess. I'd go digital but have a cupboard full of film to use, and an empty bank balance! One day I'll catch up. Hope the group works out well.

would you like some printable fliers and business cards to give out/use?

Matty - if you have any of those business cards - flyers spare, theres a NEW club in Webheath, Redditch that could take some of your hands

Johnny, sorry to hear about that Man-Flu, that really is some serious FLU my friend :notworthy:

ok when i find it i will give you the link to the cards and fliers, just download and print!

I would potentially be interested in this dependant on where it is and how much free time i have.

Honestly... men... what are you like !!!

Matty - fliers would be great. Hoping to meet up with Rob, Paul and any other intersted parties soon so a link to the 'goods' would be good.

Sadly i've had to downgrade Man Flu to raging Ebola Zaire and haul ass into work today. Too much to do and not enough time (though i reckon I'll be back in bed not long after lunch).

I had thought it was bird flu, but i had no urge to shop or nag so it must be more serious :(

:'( :'( :'(

I think that I have had that Bird flu today......I have been feeling ever so peckish!!!

 I'll get me coat....
