So these adverts professing the surface pro and a similar dell to be the best thing since sliced bread, has anyone bought one for editing? Are they as good as they are made out to be?
Personally I think they good be good for pro's ie wedding togs show work to potential clients but as an editing machine?

The surface pro is easily good enough for photographers to show work to potential clients. As an Editing computer it would not be up to the job but than again there is no tablet on the market that I would be happy to use for serious editing.

The models based on i5 quad processors etc (pro 3 and 4) would be fine for editing on an external monitor, just like any other similarly spec'd PC. The obvious screen limitations are inescapable, whatever the advertising might say.

I've been looking at one for tethering and for doing quick edits whilst out and about (weekends away or such). I'd still do my proper editing on my main computer at home but they do look quite good. It's just that price tag for me. Wow

I've owned both the i5 and i7 versions and whilst it is a fantastic piece of engineers I found it too big to be useful as a tablet and the keyboard and kickstand too awkward for use as a travel laptop. There are much better options around for small untrained light laptop, I currently use the Dell XPS 13" (4K screen model).

Does you use this for editing?

Have used the sp3 and now the sp4 and a surface book, both good for editing especially docked to a calibrated large monitor. The i5 or i7 with 8 or 16gb flies in lightroom and photoshop, the 4gb will prob not be as good although they all perform better than the ram spec would suggest, for instance I have a couple of progs that refuse to install on anything below 8gb yet went on a 4gb as it performance benchmarked beyond the expected test.

If you like using a stylus to edit not much else will compare IMHO. Unless you go into cintiq territory but then you still need a powerfull pc (unless opting for one of their combined units obv)
