Hi,

Anyone looking to get a SP4?

Microsoft are doing a trade in offer https://storetradeup.com/gb/en/pages/surfacepro4/home with certain hardware.

I am tempted to trade in my MacBook Pro and go with the i5 / 8 / 256.

Just wondering will it be enough to run Adobe cloud applications well?

It would mainly be a development machine but would like to edit photos and videos also.

Thanks.

Yep got one. Not got cc however but runs locally lr6 and elements 14 v well.
Mine is the spec you are considering but am considering a 16gb one on uk release although nothing has struggled on the 8 for me as yet.

How did you get one so quickly?

My 15" MacBook Pro is a Core 2 Duo with 8GB which still works but just fancy a change now. The SP4 offers the best of both worlds for entertainment and productivity.

Are you looking at the 256GB / Intel Core i7 - 16GB RAM?

Do you dock yours to a monitor or happy to edit using the keyboard accessory?

When you say it runs very well do you mean it is lag free and quick to edit and batch out RAW files?

Does it ever get noisy and hot?

This would be my sole machine and would look to dock it for serious photo and video edits and rest of the time in tablet mode.

Thanks.

Got it from the US.
Yep thinking about it but tbh not sure if I need to as this one performs really well.
Yep got the earlier dock for my sp3 and use that, waiti g for the spacer but fits as long as you are careful and supports 4k better than the new dock apparently. But mostly edit with the stylus and keyboard (type 3 as the uk 4 not out just yet).

Been pretty lag free with my useage but obv ymmv, 7d2 and 5d3 and em1 raws all seem ok with lr and oly viewer.
The fan comes on when pushing a bit through but very very quiet have to be no talking or tv to tell and not got more than tepid temperature wise.

If you ever get near Bury st Edmunds or Cambridge you can have a play ;)

Cheers for the feedback. I had a quick play with the SP3 in Currys and was impressed. The SP4 should be even better.

Obviously this much outlay gets me into MBPr 13/15 territory but the SP4 form factor just appeals to me. Docked at my desk then tablet mode for lighter tasks.

I would be editing D750 RAW and 1080p/25 video files.

Sadly not near you otherwise would have come around for tea and a play o_O

Thanks.

I was considering the Surface Pro 4 as a MacBook Pro replacement, but I think that the Surface Pro only come's in the dual-core Intel CPU variants.
If this is the case and factoring in the cost difference(s), I have decided to stick with Apple.

It does start getting to MacBook Pro 15" territory once want an i7 variant and accessories. I'm still wanting it for the form factor fully well knowing the price can be a bit hard to stomach.

Yes it is dual core options only but the spec is on par with the Air and 13 MBPr or in some cases better.

The Surface Pro 4 looked fantastic but I've held off given the run of quality control issues reported online. This includes:

Light leak (I've seen some horrendous examples)
Small marks and nicks on the housing
Issues with the trackpad
Various software bugs

The thing is I really want one. The integration with OneNote, the handwriting capabilities and the form factor would be ideal for me.

The integration with OneNote, the handwriting capabilities and the form factor also appeal to me. I would be jumping back from OSX so want the machine to wow me and be stable as for the same price I could get a Quad 15 MacBook Pro Retina!

The quality control issues reported online do seem worrying. Microsoft on their store do mention a no quibble returns policy so tempted to order towards Xmas and have a good play before keeping or returning it.

Just been looking at these and they do look pretty good. Hard to get hold of the spec I want at the minute though.

I just returned mine today to John Lewis (i5, 8GB, 256GB).

I had three hardware related issues:
  • Light leakage all around the screen (pretty bad too).
  • Dead pixels on the screen.
  • A battery that lasted for only 3 hours even when in use for nothing more than web browsing.
I also had several software related issues which have yet to be fixed and made the device less than ideal to use.

It's a shame really because I really wanted to love it.

Interested in the Pro 4 when it is released in a few days time in the UK. Watch for the supply problem! There are a number of reported niggles including the hibernate issue, but overall, my only MS computer left is still running XP and looking decidedly slow and dated. ;(

Already released. PC World and Iohn Lewis have stock. I purchased mine on the 29/11/2015 by walking into John Lewis (no preorder required).

There are lots of reported issues. I had those stated above from a hardware point of view and numerous software based issues, including:

  • Problems coming out of standby.
  • Issues with the pen and it's integration to OneNote (desktop edition).
  • Random display driver crashes.

We got 15 of them on launch day from Microsoft; all have been great.

The Surface Pro 3 was already the best laptop/tablet combo; the SP4 is even better,

Thanks for all the updates since my original posting. There seems to be mixed reviews and will continue to look at these but if I don't end up liking it will upgrade to the MacBook Pro 15" Retina to meet all my workstation needs.
