vs SP3 could be a tricky one for photographers until we get some real world reviews. A lot of the improvements look fairly marginal. Some thoughts:
  • It's unknown how much the new chipset (for touch and pen), the new pixelsense screen, the new pen and the new pen tips will really make a difference to editing in LR and PS. I'm talking about pen accuracy, lag, ergonomics, haptics etc.
  • Skylake and new cooling system should allow peak workloads to run longer before thermal throttling, meaning it's likely to be faster when batch processing, but I'm not expecting it to be a massive speed bump across the board. Also no details yet on the other internals like speed bumps for SSD or memory.
  • The surface book may be better purely because screen real-estate might make a bigger overall difference to photographers, plus the gpu might help as we do more and more video processing.

Initial reports from digital artists that have gone into stores in the US to play with these suggest the pen is significantly better is certain respects. The new keyboard also seems an improvements, but obviously we're still waiting on benchmarks to see the real speed improvements.

The pre-order price in the UK is killing it for more right now. Ouch.
