ignoring everyone who doesn't get on with it in the simplest terms

a # or hashtag is normally used to describe what your talking about. Other users will search for the tags. So for example if you were talking about something on The Apprentice you may end with the hastag #apprentice. Makes it easier for others to search.

an @ refers to a twitter user, so for example if you wished me to respond or just talk about me then you may use my twitter user name @hugh_m_photo

It took me ages to figure it out too. If someone does an FF, it stands for follow Friday apparently, it's meant to get you more followers. And RT is retweet, normally done by sad do's asking celebrities to wish them a happy birthday.
 
You can upload photos and if say they were of #Olympic torch you might today be getting a lot of traffic and you can have your website/flickr on your profile or with the pic.
I have more time for twitter than facebook in some ways.
"#your local town" will be somewhat interesting to follow.

I like what it aim to achieve but can't help thinking that it's Facebook for people who think hash-tagging is intellectually superior than just posting an image of a cat on a bicycle and liking it....

no idea.... I signed up to it once when working for a fulfillment co in diss (illusioned) as it wa sdull.. i won't even pretend to undersatnd what hashtag chris evans means...

Don't get it, don't need it.... struggle with faceplace...

I signed up because I came across an interesting photographer on there, that was as far as I got! I haven't been back to it and wouldn't know what to do on there.

I actually prefer twitter to Facebook, I guess it helps if you view it as a microblogging site. Can work wonders for driving traffic and PR to your own site - one of the best who I see using it is Whitey (http://BANNED/#!/imagesbysw).
 
You're not the only one, Squizza. I very quickly found the 150 characters "tweet" far too limited for my taste - especially since I don't do l33t type shorthand text. I just couldn't see how my Facebook's Cloud Master weather forecast service would fit in - apart from providing a link to it's website (which I also update on a daily basis).

Take away all social networking for me and leave Twitter, it is by far the best social networking tool out there IMHO

Its landed me alot of jobs I wouldn't normally get and gets you involved with things you normally wouldn't be involved with otherwise

I use it mainly for plugging my work but also use it socially occasionally (Champions League final was an example)

With doing sports photography I add pics to tweet players and have alittle joke / banter with them after games, all in good fun. I speak to and follow alot of local media folk to as it covers the same sort of area. I do occasionally do things like caption comp, or a free giveaway to drum up interest and keep people interested in what I do

I do also help others with there photography (alittle like here) and get to meet / chat to others that do the same sort of thing

Twitter can be great if you use it in the right way, I've often thought that at times I don;t and should improve but if others think I use it in the right way then its good to hear
 
It's referred to as "t***ter" in our house. We're not fans...... :lol:

I said two months, thats the start of the new season :-) lol

I dont mind 99% of football teams, just don;t like Sunderland for obvious reasons and Arsenal, mainly due to Wenger lol

other than that, I am easy
