Flippin'eck...how long have been away ?

OK here goes.......

Cut....think I prefer the slightly wider view , really no crit as it just looks super to me....a really good spot well shot

Live...you really have these product type shost nailed Alan....that is just perfect from the placement to the lighting to the detail & sharpness.....excellent:clap:

Power.....think all's been said

Reflection...another one messing with my eye's cos the feet & lower legs don't look like a reflection....rather ghostly I think

Cut 2....ouch ! Hope your good lady is well recovered now

I really like the radio AND the reflection shot. (what a coincidence eh?) Quality.

Cut #2, I'm sure I've see this. Good composition and detail. Loks to be slight halo on the inner side of the ring??

Live, on theme but not your best as it appears grab shot and I'm sure it wasn't.

Thanks for the comments Andy.
The memorial to the wrecked ships is on the promenade at Cleveleys so maybe you saw it there on your Blackpool visit if you went that far up the coast
You are right = Live was not a grab shot - as carefully set up as I could o_O

Thanks for the comments Lynne . Mrs SP progressing very well

Cheers Brian - 2 in a row :D

Hi Alan,
Live, a very crisp clean image which is a simple yet effective take on the theme.
Reflection, I do like this composition choice, it has an abstract feel to it which works well

I'm not keen on melt, It just does nothing for me, sorry...

Left I could look at all day - well, until the tide comes in :D - My only criticism would be that a little less grass might have made a better balance, (try scrolling it off the bottom of the screen for a cheap n dirty preview) but thats just to my eyes of course! Lovely. :)

Thanks Brian. OK about Melt - I had another shot but I think that I missed the focus - I may post it anyway.

I see what you mean about Left - I was trying to get thirds top to bottom - I would not be sure about how much to crop - say the bottom 40% of the grass where it meets the RH edge:thinking:

Anyway 3 out of the last 4 is pleasing enough.

Alan,

I'm of the opposite opinion regarding melt. I think it is a cracking image because a) it is out of the ordinary and b) because the lighting is superb. In fact, i can't figure ir out. There appears to be a mixture of orange ambient and a hint of flash. Can you help me out with this one please. Does the oven have an internal light? If so where abouts. Also, did you use the flash and if so, how was it modified.

Great result Alan.

Hi Alan,
Melts a nice idea and the pot stands out, its different from the norm and thats always a plus point
Left I agree with Brian about the crop, I would probably crop half of the grass, nice image though

Hi Alan (lot of us about aren't there :D)
Melt is a combination of natural light entering from the left, but with a bit of card to cut off the glare that was coming from the back panel, the microwave light that can be seen upper right and a small tea light candle in the pot, which i think is quite effective and may be something that can be used for other shots. 1/4 sec exposure

Brilliant. Thank you for sharing. I think the natural light on the back panel is what ultimately makes the image. Without it the image would be too dark and perhaps orange. Also a fantastic idea to light the inside of the pot. Really impressed. Well done.

Wouldn't be so bad if all the Al(l)an's spelt their names the same!! I'm always scrolling back up to check!

Melt... tea-light candle in the pot eh?? I'd have kept that little gem to myself.. has that contributed to the melt or was it a quick blast in the microwave? But yep - stands out against the black of the oven inner, yet clearly lit still.

Left (cropped) is also good. I think wider images work well when most are viewed on a wider screen nowadays, rather than being printed. The lean is nice, bit of reflection and a nice calming sky.

Only mine is spelt correctly though Graham :p :exit:

Thanks Graham.
The microwave was the source of the 'melt' - candle was just to make it look a bit more 'nuclear' :D

Good point about the wider images/wide screens - that hadn't occurred to me.

can't fault the detail on the cold sausage, but compositionally I'm being jarred everywhere I look. the cropped tip of the sausage, bit of roll peeking in from the corner, not all of the splodge of mustard, and a cocktail stick that's not a cocktail stick. sorry!

I'll happily go with the chicken soup though, my eye is drawn all the way round the plate and then the bowl, before settling on the soup itself. Nice clean presentation too.

Art - apart from the uncomfortable looking cross leggedness of the mannequin (I know, he probably wouldn't sit straight otherwise!!), I really like this. the contemplative expression you've brought with the composition, the pose of the figure in the picture, even the slightly OOF of the picture matches the frame. I even like the off levelness of the picture in the frame. As well as the echo of the black to white colour of the actual and the picture.

Thanks Graham
All points noted re the sausage - perhaps I got over excited in my wish to get it eaten
As for the mannequin, the cross legged position was deliberate as, after a few poses, I thought that it looked more relaxed (and contemplative) than 2 feet on the floor

Hi Alan
Food, have to go with the soup shot as the sausage looks very unappetising.
The soup looks better composition wise, both are very sharp
Art, the mannequins are taking over :runaway:, nicely done though and a nice idea

Hi Alan, comment catch-up time from me.

Melt, love it! A very creative take on the theme, the light inside the pot, inspired. You've held the detail in the black background too. Perfect

Left, I agree with Brian, a lovely scene, the cropping of the grass at the bottom works well, nothing else to add Alan,

Food, #2, the chicken soup wins my vote over #1 for much the same reasons as Graham. The WB has a slightly warm look to it, not sure if that was deliberate on your part Alan, but I would have liked to see the whites a bit whiter as opposed to yellowish. Thats obviously my opinion, so please feel free to ignore

Art, again a creative take on the theme. Maybe just needs a CCW rotation so as the top of the frame is horizontal and it would remove the band of shadow along the top edge of the image. But other than that

Food: I think the sausage shot is the pick of the two, good bold colours and a very unusual POV. Sausage looks a bit cold, but then it's a cold sausage!

Very Clever Idea for Art, I think it would be better if there was some texture in the blacks tbh. and I'm not keen on the dark shadow across the top, but the perspective is really really good. :)

Just for you.
This is the original with a bit of crop of RHS and lightening of the shadows. The wording left and right is incomplete as I wanted to concentrate on the circle.

Thanks Alan - Thats a real nice monument, I'm definitely liking the rust, shame there wasn't a bit more of it :)

Back to catching up with the rest of your images...

Live - Now thats a cracking composition mate, love all the straight crisp lines and the curve of the handle

Reflection - Very clever, like how the arms are down by your/their side yet the photo appears to be taken from their angle !!! - certainly messes with my brain :D

Melt - Nice idea, well lit main subject and the rest of the oven still showing some detail !!!

Left - Works in many ways, leaning to the left, on the left and having been left... liking the crop - nice level horizon to boot

Food - Shame the yummy sausage is snipped, the buttered roll is fine, but I'd like to see the rest of the sausage and the mustard, must say excellent lighting and detail :)

Art - Hahhaaaaaa love that  like how that's been set up, shame about the shadow running in across the top, other than that excellent composition

OMG....have I really been away from your thread for that long

In no particular order....

Food....that sausage is pretty darned impressive , really jumps out of the screen at me ( or maybe that's wishful thinking as I'm partial to cold sausages though prefer dipping them in salad cream ) , the cropped sausage tip & mustard , jar me a little but not overly so...a  from me

Art....Love it.....the thinking mannequin , can't pick holes at all , from the idea to the execution I think it's brilliant

Melt....another top idea , super detail in the oven , good blacks & a perfectly melted pot , all super sharp....

Left....the edited version works wonderfully , I really could see that framed & hanging in a little coffee shop down by the river

Hi Alan, Hope you are well. Are you gonna get caught up? It's nearly over! :D

Thanks Iain. I agree that the whites could have been whiter on Food. The room that I use has walls with 'jasmine white' walls so i always get a bit of yellow in natural light
On Art, i had a few shots but opted for this as i thought that the slight slope on the frame and the sloping shadow gave a sense of perspective as if the 'viewer' mannequin ' was looking into the corner of the room. I did leave it deliberately

Kind words Lynne. Thank you.

the last rolo.... perfect idea for the theme.

Hard one to put into practice to capture the sharing part that's required, but this works. The flattened "tube" works to highlight the fact it is indeed the last one.

Cuff not a problem for me, skin tones look pretty much spot on too.

you know - I looked at sleek before and couldn;t for the life of me work out what it was... for some reason my mind was trying to invent 2 animals curling up to each other, but I couldn;t see that properly either. (no offence to anyone here.)

now I see what it is, and it's perfectly sleek, nice detail and focus in the top part, and really nice contrast with the lower section too.

of the choccies. yumyum, prefer the first - nice POV to keep the top down look, but add (the much needed) depth too. (y) I think the close up is too tight for me, maybe with more chocs (or had they been eaten by then) and crop through some of the extra ones, or a wider view of what you have there?

Happy birthday too Alan!

Hi Alan

Friendship nice idea for the theme and well executed
sleek, very nice sleeky fur, you have managed to get some detail in the black
colour, the first one for me, some nice colour in there
