Just a heads up for anyone interested, there is going to be a supermoon this coming Sunday :)

Is this at a specific time or just all day/night of Sunday?

Don't wish to steal anyone's cookie but I don't get the big deal about the "supermoon". Difference will be barely noticeable. It's only ~1% bigger than it was at the last full moon and only ~10% bigger than at the last full moon perigee (if 10% sounds impressive, remember we're talking area).

Supermoon is a nifty piece of lunar trivia but as a spectacle it's a bit of a sparrow's fart. For almost all credible purposes it will look no different. Many people will kid themselves that it does, however, as they always do. Maybe they confuse the moon illusion with the supermoon or something. I don't know.

This.
Oh...and don't put your cameras away...the sun will rise on Monday.
Wouldn't want to miss that.

Not forgetting that the Moon at full is relatively uninteresting as far as photography goes (unless there's an eclipse) since it's so flatly lit.

A full moon yes but you can get some nice shadow/crater detail anywhere between full/new moon ;)

If the conditions are right it might be worth a look out if that's your sort of thing.

My last supermoon image sold for almost £400.

Cheers, I'll keep an eye out this Sunday. Some fantastic supermoon shots on the web.
Except they are almost all nothing to do with the supermoon. The fact they may have been taken during a supermoon is inconsequential (except for purposes of hyping the image up).
Most of them are just long focal length/cropped images of the moon near the horizon (sometimes with distant objects silhouetted against it). Giving the illusion of a huge moon. Equally "impressive" photographs could be taken at lunar perigee.
In reality, there is barely any visible difference between the "supermoon" and the moon at any other time of year. It really is a load of hype.

Looking forward to it if the clouds break. Ta OP.

No-one. Just perplexed by all the hype in the media and elsewhere about a complete non-event (visually at least).
And you'll get folk going out and cooing at the "supermoon" pretending they can see any real difference. All too afraid to lose face if they point out that the emperor has no clothes.

During last month's full moon, our closest neighbour was 358,000 km away. This month during the amazing supermoon the satellite will be a terrifyingly close 357,000 km away! Whoop-de-do. At perigee this year it won't get much further than 363,000 km. There's nothing in it.

Also, remember, the apparent size of the moon can change massively on any night of the year depending on its proximity to the horizon; due to the moon illusion.

Woah! Fantastic! That's the third one this year!

For those excited about Supermoons - here's an example of a past Supermoon (even superer than this week's) with a normal Moon as a comparison...

I think it's astonishing just how much bigger the Supermoon (on the left - or is it the one on the right?) is.

The actual size of the moon in your visual field is roughly that of the average thumbnail held at arm's length. Regardless of where it is in the sky (it sometimes looks bigger nearer the horizon due to a fascinating phenomenon known as the moon illusion).

Go ahead and test it. Then test it on the 23rd. There will be negligible difference.

There's usually a fight in the pub when there's a full moon. Does this mean there'll be a BIG fight this weekend?
Wait a minute - there's a fight in the pub every bloody week.

Being pedantic, the moon is the same size all the time. :D
