Did you use a tripod? ;) Spot-meter the moon and fire away!

I would have thought 300mm was fine. What settings were you using?

Well.... Lol... I asked about this the other day...and I got told put the shutter speed up which I did.. I got a picture of the moon but it's just not as sharp as all the ones on here that I have seen... I used every single setting on camera dial and played around with the camera as much as I could and it was pants!!!

Admittedly I didnt use a tripod as I was shooting out of my bedroom window... I'll bare that in mind next time...

Also a question... When I zoom in to the moon how comes what I can see through my viewfinder regarding the size of the moon isn't the same size of the moon when I look back at the image??? If that makes any sense........

The moon is really tiny... The mind can play tricks, but the camera doesn't!

Next time your out looking at the moon put your arm out straight and compare the size of the moon to the fingernail on your little finger that should give an idea of the size of the shot your trying to take ..... It really is small.

I didn't get any shots at all, cloud covered moon round my way, i'll have to wait until this week to try and get a decent chance.

Well after seeing so many moon shots I just had to join in.

i live on the south coast and the moon came up over the sea.
the light from the moon was reflecting on the sea and looked great but i couldnt get it to come out in my photos.
what settings should i have used to try and get the moon and sea or should i have taken two shots 1 for each ??
thanks chris.

I have had similar problems trying to take a shot of the moon shining through the clouds. Either I got the clouds but the moon was completely burnt, or I got the moon OK but no clouds. Cameras do not seem to have the same contrast range that the Mk1 eyeball does.

I did consider Photoshop. :naughty:

see were getting more boring shots, pleeeeeeeeeeease someone do something creative for us to look at :bang:

Here you go, my first attempts on manual settings, was rather annoyed with them as had a great clear picture in viewfinder, but come photo time...err something went horribly wrong. I am using an Olympus e410 45-150, messed around with aperture and the other settings to see what i could get.

You can now see why i am doing the Practical Photography tutorial.

Some more, as you can see, none of the boring ones that people have with lots of detail

Think one of the main settings i had wrong was the metering, didn't realise it at the time, but i had it on centre instead of spot, have been told this is a probable reason on another forum.

Camera was on a tripod and varied exposure times as well, the really blurry one was on 60 sec.

Reidy here is one I took a couple of weeks ago
My settings for this pic taken with my canon 50D and my 100-400 lens

ISO 100
Shutter 1/200
F 5.6
at 400mm
The moon is very bright so I had the white balance on day light

hope this helps you

Thanks Spike,

I was hoping for some moon tonight, so i could go out and play again, but it doesn't want to play for me tonight.
