supermarket car park incident

I think if you have the time and arent bothered about the hassle then you should persue it. If they were nice about it, then you might have let it slide but bad attitude does win many favours.

Its less to do with a decision than it is to do with laws that cover CCTV viewing over the public, this is why i have a license that costs me £300 every 3 years and i have to take ongoing tests each year to make sure im up to standards, this is just for me to monitor the dam thing.

IF and i do mean if, I was able to put video on to a disc and hand it to people who requested it all the time then i would be doing nothing more than this, its not security that makes the decision of "its too petty crime" its the company lawyers who will talk to the persons solictor.

We have had it where we can see whats happened but because its not 100% clear it gets dismissed or because there are children involved and the data protection act that protects them specially with the laws regarding P****'s its all really restricting.

I really wish i could say to the chap go get your video blah blah but he will need a solicitor to do this which will most propberly cost him more than what it would to cover the damage with all the weeks waiting aswell the part could rust too.

Personally, i would try to find her address and send a polite letter simply stating that it was your car she damaged and are now seeking some sort of repair through advice of a solictor.
Pity you dont live in Nottingham, i know a few body shops that could do you a deal for this that would be a hell of alot cheaper and faster than going legal on her.

Seriously put it down to experience, I bought a D3 last week which turned out to have a scratch on the sensor, It cost me £60 to get the sensor cleaned and post it back, he refunded my money but not the £60.

I just put it down to experience, can't be bothered getting worked up for such a trivial amount.

It's unlikely you'll get any money so anything you spend will just add to the cost, get a dent guy in, give him £100, forget about it

Now I love my car more than my own mother, but if I was in your shoes, I'd have just mouthed off to the mother for her attitude, and then found myself a tidy panel beater to sort it out.

theres no need to go through all the hassle, and subsiquent emotional punishment to the little girl of her mother having trouble with the solicitors, court, and all that jazz.

Nobody died at the end of the day, no need for some silly cow's attitude to ruin anybodies day.

avoidance strategy?: park at the far end of the car park, reduces this sort of accident massively, and gets you more exercise.

The girl could not control the trolley, therefore should not have been in charge of it and as a result of this she accidentally damaged my car. FACT.

The damage was not there prior to the girl hitting it with the trolley, therefore her actions caused the damage to the vehicle. FACT.

The mother is legally responsible for the actions /consequences caused etc of a minor. FACT.

Why should I be out of pocket to £100 or so because of someone else's actions, and the legal guardians refusal to acknowledge or accept any responsibility? Would be interested in your views on this. Given you think it's OK to pay yourself for damage casued by others, maybe you'd like to send a donation by paypal?

What good would mouthing off have done? Other than made me look a complete ******?

Park at the far end and get more exercise? Great idea :clap:, given I am temporarily in a wheelchair with two broken legs, two pinned and screwed broken ankles and therefore 2 toe to knee fibreglass casts. . :thumbs::thumbs:

Shall I park at the bottom of the slope as well, just to make it that bit more difficult being uphill all the way as well? :shrug: Maybe partially deflate the tyres to make it a tad more awkward?

No need to fly off the handle Lynton, I think it's possible Rozzy missed the wheelchair bit but even if he didn't, not everyone has to agree with your point of view, it's a relatively free world and there's bound to be opinions that differ from yours.

I would own to not knowing the legal situation re. CCTV but spent 36+ years in insurance and have seen many claims where the info. was freely provided. Common sense tells me that there should be no law that permits disclosure to a solicitor but would not permit disclosure to support an injured party.

I stand by what I say, threaten the Supermarket and they will come up with the goods.

Often it is not the law that is at fault but the strange interpretations imposed by individuals.

Whatever the legal situation on CCTV, if it was me, I would follow up on principle.

About 10 years ago I returned to my 2 week old car in a supermarket car park to find the drivers door so badly damaged it must have been a fully laden trolley that ran into it.

However they did leave a note, a 50% off sticker in the centre of the damage!!

The door had a large crease above and below the rub strip, however it was amazing to watch the "Dent Devils" technician bring it back to its former shape, apart from a tiny scuff you simply could not tell it had been damaged and repaired, that door would have been either replaced or re-skinned before paintless dent removal outfits were around.

You have my sympathy Lynton. There are too many people around these days who have absolutely no morals, scruples, or principles. They are utter low-lifes who deserve everything they get.

My advice is suck up the cost and put it down to experience. Karma will deliver back to them what they inflicted on you, hopefully ten-fold!

Saying all this though, there might not actually be any video evidence. They might be in dome's but they could be point in anyone of 360 directions. Yea given 45 of them could include this mans incident.

Park in a disabled bay and to be extra special park in the middle of two disabled bays. You might not have a badge but who is going to argue with you when you roll up in your pretty fly for a white guy wheel chair.

You could be right on the direction of cameras and whether they actually capture anything.

I had a car broken into in a hotel car park that was completely covered with CCTV. Eight cars were broken into that night and the CCTV cameras didn't show any of them. They showed people approaching the cars and leaving the area the cars were in but no actual incident.

Put it down to bad luck plus bad manners and move on otherwise it will just drive you bonkers

I just accept now that damage in car parks is unavoidable, probably why we just have older cars and don't worry about it

Bit of T Cut should sort it out, life is too short sometimes to waste time,money and effort on these things
 
Judging by your fiesty responses and angry language, this has already raised your heart attack risk a few notches already. Is it really worth it?

If it is, get her details, call a solicitor, and do something about it, instead of just ranting at the internet. Otherwise (what I'd do), knock the dent out, touch up the scratch, the give the car an extra thorough clean and wax to make it feel better, and get on with your life!

which are mostly based on ridiculous hypothetical proxies. Its just easier to put you in a higher risk category, so their model can price your cover in a prudent manner for them i.e. more profit.
