Looking for advice on a FF super wide zoom with a nikon fit.
The obvious answer is the nikon 14-24 f2.8. But not looking to spend that much!

Had a sigma 17-35 ex in the past on film, so something similar.or even wider.

Any advice?

Nikon 14-24mm f2.8
Tokina 16-28mm f2.8
Nikon 16-35mm f4 VR
Sigma 12-24mm f4.5-5.6

Only the Nikon 16-35mm takes screw in filters.

Tamron 17-35, you'd have to spend several times as much to get anything as good or better, it really is very good and you can get one for around £200.

Sigma 12-24. Verging on the insanely wide on FF! Check the actual lens you'll be getting - QC has been known to be suspect (although I have several Sigmas and all are fine).

+1
I'm also looking at the moment and the Tamron is like hens teeth at the moment. I'm presently bouncing between the old Nikon 17-35 f2.8, which still goes for silly money for decent examples, and the Sigma 12-24 f4-5.6.

Samyang 14/2.8 prime does most of the 14-24/2.8 for much less.

Zoom is not that important. If you are shooting ultrawide you normally want to be as wide as possible.

I'd go by the title of the thread ("super wide zooms for full frame") and say that the zoom part is pretty important to the OP ;)

You know, it it is, until you realise you are always at the wide end!
Was always the case with my 17-35.dont think I ever used it at 35.but took plenty at 17.
Maybe a fixed 14 could be the answer.
A few of the sigma 17-35 on eBay for less than £150 is tempting though.some of the others mentioned are looking hard to find at the mo.

Going prime definitely opens up a few more options - Samyang as MPE says, there's also the Nikon 14mm f/2.8 and the Sigma 14mm f/2.8, which can be had for about £200-£250 used

Sigma 14mm is OK, suffers horrendous lens flare though, and can be very soft at the edges. It does focus very close up though which is fun. That said, I sold mine and bought a Nikon 16-35 which I much prefer, although it's out of budget in this instance.

Yeah, the 'flaremaster' does like to catch every ray of light  I only used one on DX so edge softness wasn't apparent. The close-up focussing was an amazing attribute that I loved.... even at f/11 you had a paper-thin slice of DOF when you're focussing an inch or so from the front element :)
