Yes
Like so many of us, we are in need of some sunshine, and have school holidays as our only opportunity..

So, where can we go that is cheap, at least 23-25 degrees and guaranteed some sun ?

We like laid back, small, basic, non touristy and friendly - we don't need smart, can't afford expensive, and do not want to be in Little England on sea.

I'd find somewhere nice in Spain. Easter (Semana Santa) is fantastic to see. There is nothing like it in the UK.

I hear you Ricardo, but can you be sure of the weather - I lived further south (Almeria) than you for many years and remember easter often being cold and wet...

Morroco, only 3 hours away, not hugely expensive, plenty of not very touristy bits and even marrakech is very different despite the tourism [avoid Agadir if you dont want little england on sea] For more info, click on link to my hobby blog in sig ;)

Any thoughts on where in Morocco to base ourselves Yv - I am just about to take a look at your blog but first impressions are that yours was a photography holiday - the kids and my wife just want to chill by a pool in the sun - can't say I'd object to some of that either...!

Marrakech if you want to combine that with sight seeing, as many of the newer hotels on the outskirts of town have large pools, spas etc and apart from a few exceptional genuine 5* numbers, will not be massively expensive and accesible to th eold town with its plethora of souks and eateries

If you prefer coastal, see what is in offer in and around Essaouira, which will still offer a pretty town to walk round, but some coastline too - we misse dit last time, but are going again in May and its on the must do places.

You can have a look at Agadir, but it is very much like spanish holiday resorts, all hotels on the sea front, but it does have a huge long beach front and canary islands weather, so almost guaranteed to be lovely

Wow Yv - what a great blog !
I'll be showing my wife when she gets home from work and we might just start looking into whats available !

 thanks Steve, glad you like it. It wasn't a photography holiday per se, it was a tour to see somewhere totally different and take in as much of the country as possible, its just I am a photographer that spends my working hours shooting poeple, so when I away, I point the camera at us very rarely, prefer the reminders of what we have seen - saves lens breakage too

Even if it isn't somewhere you chose to go this time, worth remembering for future holidays

I only went once, as a long-haired teenager looking for a smokin' time - I have no idea where I went, what I saw, ate or where I slept. That was about 40 years ago. I always wanted to go back...
This, however, this is a slightly different thing - a family holiday, and the first for many many years. If I can persuade the kids that they will like the food then we may make it in a few weeks, but I doubt any pictures I manage to take will be anything like as evocative as yours !

 I dont think mine are that brilliant, but now the kids are grown up it does give you that bit of extra time to indulge.

Food - the main staple is stewed meat [lamb, chicken, beef, fish, some goat and camel for the adventurous - cooked in the tagine style, slow, in an earthenwear pot over coals/in oven], common veg like carrots, potato, etc, and of course cous cous, although we also saw a lot of pasta, spaghetti style mainly - and Moroccan food is not, contrary to popular belief, spicy, in fact its very lightly seasoned, sometimes quite bland and very little if any salt added. If they will eat a casserole at home, chances are they will survive in Morocco [and McDonalds/KFC has made it to north Africa :D ] the biggest issue is not so much the the food being unusually flavoured, so much as meat is truly chopped and added, bone, the lot - although in hotels/cafes, they will often use just the meat to cater more to tourist tastes.

I admit I was dreading the food, I was expecting it to be too spicy, too many things I didn't like, but that wasn't the case for this chicken korma girl

Cuba.

My Mrs and I have just come back from 7 days all inclusive at the Hilton Sharks Bay in Egypt for less than a grand. Temp was 30+ every day and it was AWESOME!

I've never been, but I see The Gambia mentioned periodically.

Tenerife and the like I expect would be warm, and you can head out of the all British enclaves where it is pretty much Spanish speaking only.

Cyprus,....been in the news lately, must be a nice place to go. Make sure you take cash as the banks are shut. :suspect:

I'd second Sharm el Sheikh. £500/week all inclusive. Fantastic weather. Wonderful service.
The only thing is that the OP said not anywhere expensive. But didn't specify a figure.

Agadir is a beautiful place to stay, we enjoyed it so much we are looking to go back for a winter break. The beach is beautiful, sea a little chilly but on once you are in. The locals friendly, though they will try to sell you stuff they go away if you say no, prices for eating out were fantastic. Have to disagree with it being like a Spanish holiday resort, mount Atlas is worth a visit, so are the local markets ... or just lay on the beach. In saying that I hated Marrakech, stayed for an hour and jumped back on a coach back to Agadir.

Me and mine went to Luxor for our honeymoon and loved it.
Egypt is certainly on our list but sadly it seems as if we won't be going anywhere as our house sale has just fallen through so we cannot afford to go.
Bummer or what !
