Just a generally question/point really.

I don't ever do photos of the sun setting. If I am out at that time I am normally facing away from the sun to get the lighting that way. Prefer it this way

But out of curiosity how do people look through a lens while the sun is setting? Is this not damaging to your retina? I have seen quite a few and always wondered this.
 
Never had a problem it's only a couple of seconds and at the key moments the sun is much less intense.
 
Never really thought about this being harmful, I really should stop looking straight at the sun when skiing I guess.
 
At Sunset the sun is weaker

Looking at a sunset through a lens is no worse than looking at it direct with eyes unless you have a big zoom. Most people use wide angle lenses to capture sunsets so I'd say its no problem and carry on
