Some of the Sunpak entries produce very high voltages.
Better safe than sorry....
I suppose you could always put a DVM across the contacts when firing it? Keep your fingers out of the way though, just in case.
I picked up a Vivitar 740 AFC off the carboot today and tested the DC voltage with a multimeter when, I got home mine showing 4.8 v
