Sunny 16 a dry run.

The earth is of the order of 8000 miles diameter - the difference in distance to the sun is up to a couple of million miles between (nearest) aphelion (July) & (farthest) perihelion (Jan)

They're not of the same order of magnitude.

And the last bit is the only part of light's journey that has anything to diffuse it. The atmosphere and it travels further through the atmosphere at this time of year than in the summer months.

First film posted to the developers, now we wait.
For now all I have is a pic from my bench taken with a DSLR.

Sunny 16 is a good way to think of exposure but is sometimes used without thought.

F16 would be for a very bright high summer day.

If it helps you can think of weather symbols instead of aperture numbers. F16 = sunny, F11 = Hazy sun, F8 = light Clouds, F5.6 = very cloudy etc.

The other thing to think about is when you want to change shutter speed or depth of field. If the rule indicates 1/200 at F8 as your starting point but you want a shallow depth of field you open the aperture by say four stops and increase the shutter speed by the same. It's still Sunny 16 to establish a base line (or EV value in effect) but many aperture and shutter combinations give the same exposure.

They used to make pocket cameras on which the shutter speed and aperture were linked. I, personally, always found that useful. It gives you a good idea of how exposure worked.

I think on some Nikon digital models that is called "p" mode. As you say, lets you see variability.

ANY of the priority modes (Aperture, Speed or Programme) on Nikons (or, indeed, any camera with them) link the aperture and shutter speed if the ISO is fixed.

My film is in the lab, but been practicing with the DSLR.

Ok I have the scans back, better than I thought and as I was only testing the camera out and trying to lean I am impressed.
So First photograph, all I have done is crop and level, its a weird shape of a building, so it never looks level or square.

Next,
I took three of this woman standing looking out to sea.
Perhaps too much shots considering its film, a bad habit I have picked up from digital.
Still I thought it was too good just to rely on one shot and hoping it would be ok.
Again Straighten and Crop with a white bevel.

WAITING !

you must be really pleased, and rightly so they have turned out nice!

Yes I am, on the Analog wonderland site they are quite clear, but when I download them and then edit them they do show grain, but I am very very pleased, proved the camera is working. I think I need to get closer to some of the subjects that I am taking photographs off,

Again just a crop. I have taken a very similar shot in the past and was advised to get behind the subject to get separation and depth.
I like the long shadows but I should have straightened it a tad

The Detectorist !
I saw this bloke, he was doing plenty of digging, he was in the zone, I should have been closer?

Every one takes photographs of beach groynes, and I am no different.
But I do like the foreground in this pic. as some of the water looks like glass.
I spent about £150 on the camera, lens and film, now it was a big spend for me and I realize it may be more for others.
Took me many a night and day of turmoil about it as I already have second hand cameras.
Shooting film, well you have the initial cost of the gear and every film is at least £5.50, the one I used was about £10.
To get this developed cost about £16, so I consider it a luxury to have this camera and associated expenses.
I wont be taking a lot of shots, but I will keep going but will be careful with the shutter button.
Good night.
PS I do have more from this roll of film but that will be later.
THE GROYNES !
