What kind of sunglasses person are you? Do you like the "classic" aviator style or Ray-Ban Wayfairer? Or is something a bit more modern your thing?

I wear Police, or when I'm on the bike, Bloc (with interchangeable lenses).

Do you go cheap and cheerful, or do you tend to buy an expensive pair?

My all time faves were a pair of Rudy Project Ekynox which are just brilliant.
 
Oakley Livestrong Radar Path Black Iridium for riding as i love the fit and the build quality and police for day to day wear.
 
Used to always have Oakley m frames when I was shooting with about 4 pairs of lenses. about £300 20 years ago.

Now I an wearing Serengeti sunglasses, not massively expensive, about £200 iirc
 
I have tried a few different type over the years but I big problems with glare in my eyes and I now use the safety glasses you can buy from major building stores, they cost around £15 and they are nest glasses I have ever had.

I have a few previous convictions for breaking/losing expensive sunglasses, so I don't buy 'brands' any more. Usually get mine from one of the department stores in South Africa when I'm there. They have a huge choice - as you would expect - and are normally a bit darker than most of the ones I've seen in the UK. My eyes are sensitive to strong light after all the years overseas, and I prefer aviator style, with dark grey lenses. Most of mine have been around £20 equivalent. Work well for me, and not too much pain if they get lost or broken. My son, who lives in SA, is an Oakley fan but he can afford them!
 
Boots own. When they're on offer. Have several pairs. Did cough a whole £30 for some polarising ones recently though. Most expensive pair I've ever bought.

Did have some classic 60s Zeiss ones but they got broken :(
 
Sundogs and Wayfarer IIs, depending on what mood I'm in and what I'm doing.
 
Just a decent pair of reactors for me, anything more than £40 for a pair and you are paying for the name.

You've got a fair point if you are just wearing them for bimbling about Rich, but for anything vaguely active (skiing, cycling, watersports etc), it does actually pay to spend a bit more. I'm paranoid about eye protection ( in a minor way) and wouldn't want to use anything that wasn't shatterproof for sports.

In general though, you're right. Vanity is king! :D

We can all split hairs Neil ;) I just remember listening to an optician on TV once, he said as far as the purpose of what Sunglasses are used for goes there is no difference between a £40 or £400 pair :shrug: I would sooner lose a £20 pair as opposed to £150 worth :D
 
sundogs for me for golfing... which is rare in the sun :bonk:

i have some chrome framed oakleys.. but my missus said i looked like Ali G in them, so they've not been worn for a couple of years.. instead i got a £15 pair of 'chips' style ones which have done me proud :thumbs:

That's my point of view too. I've also read a few reports suggesting that expensive sunglasses don't give any better protection than cheaper ones, providing they're properly UV certified; and some of the designer brands didn't do very well in the tests at all!
 
I spent about £80 on Polaroid polarised sunglasses at the airport and promptly lost them on holiday. Bought 2 more pairs of the same glasses for £30 in TK Maxx. I struggled to find polarised lenses in a nice style but the Polaroid ones are quite good.
 
Sunglasses make you look like a berk, which is why I don't own a pair. Having said that, I'm getting quite tired of flies in my eyes whilst cycling so I may have to eat my words if my bad luck continues :lol:
 
for me sunglasses are absolutely essential as I have very sensitive eyes - I can't even go out in mild sunlight without grimacing and shielding my eyes.

A few years ago I got sick of cheap sunglasses breaking or simply not dimming the light enough, so I popped into specsavers and bought a pair of BLOC polarised glasses; they were only around £35 quid but are really well built and I wear them in situations where I need the polarisation and the confidence that they won't fall off my head or break.

The only trouble is, they're wrap-arounds, which are about as fashionable as Granny's living room, so for regular, everyday use I wear a pair that look like this:

£15 from Topman - sturdy and look great with just about any outfit, from reasonably fashionable to all-out hipster.
 
Don't think I've spent more than a fiver for a pair. I don't do labels.
 
Polarised oakleys here, I have tried alerts but being a fussy b****r hey are the only glasses light enough that still take out all glare and are comfy.

A pair of Oakley A-Wire Polarised, had them about 10 years and only just bought replacement arm socks and nose pieces (£8 the set) and they're back to looking brand new. Superb quality and have proven bomb proof.

When out on a bike I have a set of Endura Shark with Interchangable Lenses.
 
I have a 10yr old pair of Oakley fives with black iridium lenses and a pair of 10yr old Oakley Twenties (I think) with the gold iridium lenses.

I prefer the black iridium lenses over the gold as they cut out much more glare. Having used tonnes of different sunnies over the years (cheap and expensive) the difference between everything else and my Oakley Fives is comparable to the difference between an old Canon 75-300 and a 70-200! They have a weird ability to seemingly improve my vision!

They do :) It's not just me then, anyone who says that cheap sunnies are the same haven't owned a pair of polarised Oakleys :)
 
Oakleys sine 1992. Started off with frogskins, now have jawbones with black polarised iridiums, golg iridium and yellows which are amazing for low crappy light.. really brighten things up.

Will never buy cheap sunnies.

I always thought it was just me too, but read a review for a pair of ski goggles last season and the reviewer said the same thing, so figured I wasn't making it up! I have worn Ray Bans, Police, Animal, Bloc, various other 'designer' brands and none of them have been as clear as my Oakleys.
 
My oakleys were good but I must confess I do think the Serengeti's pip them at the post.
 
Got a pair of what you'd probably call "fashion" sunnies that I use for driving and general use and Oakley Half Jackets with a selection of lenses (Black polarised, fire iridium, permisson and yellow light enhancing) for when I play cricket or know I'm going to be out & about in the sun for a while.
 
I was always reluctant to fork out a lot of money for sunglasses and I tried many cheap and cheerful pairs over the years. A few years ago I forked out for a pair of Oakley A Wires. I can honestly say that they are the most comfortable glasses I've ever worn. They're bullet proof too! They've been dropped, trodden on, sat on but still remain unmarked.

I am so impressed with them that what I had to get prescription glasses for reading / computer work I chose Oakley frames again. Not cheep but, again, so comfortable to wear and the quality is superb :)

I have to agree, mine are unbelievably light yet strong, and as you say, comfortable! :thumbs:
