Suitable alternative to the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens

I had the intention of purchasing this lens to use with my 7D but seeing as it's only compatible with cropped sensors, it will cause me a problem when I upgrade to a 6D/5D3

I'm after a suitable alternative, and it'll mainly be used for landscape and the odd portrait.

Suggestions please

Ah yes sorry you said canon! I was thinking of the dark side! Shame because the sigma is a brilliant lens! It was that lens I owned that stopped me going full frame! It's Crisp sharp !

If it's really that good, I maybe persuaded to keep the 7D!

Decide on your focal length then choose a lens. 18mm on APSC doesnt look the same as 18mm on FF.

the sigma actually covers ff at some focal lengths, but i dont know if the 6d body would force u to crop factor

the sigma is a stunning lens, camerastore tv on youtube it beat the nikon primes in every catagory... :O

In reality there isn't an alternative, the Sigma is a unique lens.

I owned this lens on a D7100 and it's the biz. It is ridiculously sharp at f1.8 and is like having a bag full of prime lenses. It's a hefty lump though.

The nearest equivalent on full frame would likely be a 24-70/2.8. Why don't you buy a used 17-35/1.8 for the short term, so you don't lose too much when swapping to full frame?

It's a great lens but it's Achilles heel is it's weight and heft which took the joy of ownership away for me. I would much rather have a small , light prime on my camera.

If you are happy with the weight and size then it's a fantastic lens.

Ooh can I see a link to that article please? The Zeiss 18mm isn't that great but the 35mm is excellent. 24mm doesn't exist.

As has been mentioned it's a unique lens, the closest full frame alternative would be to settle for an inferior zoom or get two primes in the 24-35mm and 50mm ranges.
