I've been asked by some friends to take some outdoor captures in the London area. They want to feature their guitars in the shots, as they're both heavily into music... I'm thinking of potential locations for the shoot, which will need to be lit by natural light, with a small amount of fill-in as and when required.

Potentially something concretey with a few angles? Cold and contrasty?

Has anyone used a great location in the London area that you think could be of use? If so - where is it? :)

Thanks in advance...

What about down on Southbank where the skaters knock about? From the park where Lonon Eye is, walk towards St Paul's direction, river on your left with the Eye behind you. Literally just down on your right hand side is a covered concrete area covered in graffiti that the skaters use. But it's made of interestingly shaped concrete pillars and is pretty moody. A friend of mine has got some brilliant pictures there and insaw it first hand last week.

If your looking for natural light, then I'm afraid that wont work.. Its very very dark under there.

are you looking for something original? if not, how about doing the abbey road shot? or the cover of whats the story morning glory?

Can't say I've ever seen this - although I've been on the Southbank once or twice... Is it easy to find? It sounds it from your description?

Gary - I'd like to try something a bit more cutting edge - but thanks for the suggestions...

Danny Two - just Googled Barbican Estate - that's something I didn't know was there - that's a potential option :)

Any more suggestions welcome :)

Docklands has got to be worth a look, maybe the old Victoria and Albert next to the Excel building

old factory sites
is the battersea power station site accessible

i dont think you want rubbernecks in the shot...so somewhere quiet but accessible

watch those axes!!

You could try some of the backstreets in Shoreditch or around London Bridge \ Liverpoool Street which are not too busy early on weekends

Axes? Sounds dangerous!!

Quiet, accessible and without rubberneckers sounds good!!

This will most likely be a Friday afternoon due to availability - Are there any you remember that stand out particularly?

How about the new Wembley Stadium?, you have the old Empire Swimming Pool next to it.

Yes , the South Bank is ideal, have a good lokk around the whole developement, especially the Hayward gallery and National Theatre.

Best time to go around the City , ( Square Mile) , is first thing on a sunday morning , mind you getting a bunch of guys from a band up early on a Sunday could be difficult!!

Definately a lot to offer around the southbank, specially if wonder around some of the backstreets, as the 'bank itself will be very busy. However, a suggestion if you can manage it, get down there very early sunday morning, sun-up basically and do a recce mission before the crowds get there. I would suggest walking from westminister bridge towards tower bridge, or vice versa, but try and head off the beaten track a bit as those as the areas that will be that bit quiter a bit later in the day.

My friend was doing a project a few years ago - I think he called it the chase - he basically chased me round the streets taking pictures - we got the odd strange stare, especially doing our mock fight whilst he was still taking pictures! :cuckoo:

Anyway we started off near Liverpool Street Station, and just ran randomly (from Bishopsgate) to Spitafiled market, onto brick lane and around. I think a fee bands do do shoots in roads around thjere, there is often filming, you could try rivington street near the club cargos, or heafd to borough market and walk the streets down towards Vinapolis some interesting spots there (though narrow-ish roads).

You may have thought of this, but google street view might be worth a quick look to give you a basic idea?

Good luck!

Hi Cymruchris

Take a look at the Swoosh Pavillion in Bedford Square just off Tottenham Court Road, I found it by accident one day. It's different!
