Such greed!

If demand is high and supply is short then that's business. Not nice I know but that's how it is I'm afraid.

There's business and there's profiteering. I'd suggest that the link above is the latter.

I know that the Lee Big Stopper is difficult to get hold of if you are not prepared to wait but this

ebay.co.uk/itm/Lee-Big-Stopper-10-stop-long-exposure-Brand-New-/140991780140?pt=UK_CamerasPhoto_CameraAccessories_CameraLensesFilters_JN&hash=item20d3c3d52c
is just pure greed! :cuckoo:

To think that I paid under £100 less than 6 months ago for a brand new one makes it even more unpalatable!

Andy
That's expensive

An unrelated problem I am having here and in many post's with links is they do not work for me, and if this post shows the extra text attached to the link, the bit with pt=UK blah blah, it seems that is attached to every link??

Well just like ticket touts, you will always get some greedy b****r somewhere, especaially on popular online auction sites. Buggers aren;t they.

It's called inflation,

A bit like the KK 2.0 boards, everyone wants them, supply is short, HK can't get them in stock quick enough, sellers on ebay know this and put their prices up, it's supply and demand, when the supply increases and demand equals that or less, the prices level out or go down, if it goes the other way where supply is short and demand goes up, the prices increase.

:)

I see the pt=UK etc.... as well.
I've tried opening this page in IE, firefox, chrome and safari and the link above works OK in all of them. Have you tried using a different browser to see if the issue follows between them ?

Ahh, works in IE, must be a Chrome issue, I have cleared cache and such stuff:thinking:

It capitalism and it is what the majority of people want so must be good.

No different to people who get on the waiting list for sports cars with the intention to sell as soon as they get it.

There are some people with more cash than patience and there's people who will profit from that.

I can't see any harm being done here.

It would be different if this seller was somehow getting hold of large amounts of these to restrict supply (like ticket touts) but I see no evidence of that.

Or, to put it another way - if you had one, and found out you could get £300+ for it, wouldn't you be tempted to sell?

Business IS profiteering; the point of business is to make a profit.

It's expensive, but no one's forced to buy from him. If you value having your filter NOW at £199 above RRP, buy it. If you don't, don't. What's the problem?

BTW, how do you know it's greed? How do you know he's not just lost his job and is trying to pay his mortgage?

On the other hand though if people are willing to pay it...

A couple of months back on eBay I sold a gig ticket that I genuinely couldn't make it to any more starting with a opening bid of the face value. It went for 4x that amount. I certainly wasn't going to turn the money down if someone was willing to pay it.

Im having the same issue in chrome and only with ebay links :bang::bang::bang:

There is the option to make an offer. Could be that it's automatically set to accept offers lower than the BIN price. The BIN price could just be chancing it on someone daft to press the button without thinking...

For that price I'd want it delivered by hand by a super model

as said, If you don't want to pay that price- don't

Les :D

For me profiteering is upping the price for something essential, so people are forced to pay the price. This filter is most definitely not essential. :shake:

If it was a business putting their prices up so much then that would be different imho, but an individual! Cheeky, but if you don't ask, you don't get.

If he gets someone stupid enough to pay so much over the odds for it, then good luck to him.

added to watch list - if it goes, I'm selling mine for £300

I'd absolutely agree, like anything else it's worth what someone is willing to pay, if it goes for £299 then fair play to him.

There's always this one is for anbody who's working to a budget...

Even at £99, this filter is a rip off, but whilst ever there are peeps prepared to pay that, it'll hold its price.
Its not about what the item is worth or how much it costs to produce, its about how much manufacturers/retailers think you will pay, and if they can keep the cost artificially high by limiting supply, they will......so stop buying the crap.

Its not about what the item is worth ... (snip) ... its about how much manufacturers/retailers think you will pay,
That's the same thing - Something is only worth what others are willing to pay.

I was talking about its worth to the manufacturer, rock bottom costs to make and distribute.
Regardless, if anything is only worth what somebody is prepared to pay for it, we've only got ourselves to blame, I bet the thing doesn't cost £5 to make and distribute.

£94 for brand strengthening......pfft

you don't know much about Lee filters do you? everything is hand made, a 1-stop grad gets dipped multiple times over several days, a 10 stop probably takes well over a week.

I think prices will level out when people discover they are waiting a long time, and paying a lot of money for a 3 quid Welding Glass.
Hand made of course.

The ebay ad makes it look like he's selling his Big Stopper as a one off for a rather large price.
If you check out the feedback, he's sold several recently, sometimes accepting a lower offer.

Fail to see the problem.

Supply and demand.

Don't like it.. don't buy it. Is he greedy? Damned right... but so long as people are willing to pay it, so what?
