Hello all,

Just looking for personal recommendations on laptops of around the 12-14" screen range, I much prefer this size - finding all the common 15.6 laptops too bulky.

I usually carry 2 laptops on me (work & personal) so someting small and light works best for me, plus I just feel 12-14" is a good 'sofa surfers' size. I had a Dell XPS M1330 - was nice, a little heavy but good build quality, still have it but wopuld prefer something fast. I've been using a Dell D430 I got cheap used, this is v nice and light/small but it's not fast enough and it's ALWAYS baking hot.

I had a Dell E4300 - I liked that alot, but stupidly left it on a train! Might get another, but any other suggestions?

Needs to be i3 really and 4GB of RAM. I use it for photoshop/handling RAW's and also alot of football manager - this is a pretty demanding game in terms of CPU/HDD/RAM - but it doesnt require any sort of decent graphics card.

Ideally I don't want something that runs hot all the time, you never really get that info from a review or reading specs!

I had a Lenovo X220 recently, couldn't fault it - great display (12") and mine was i5 2.5Ghz/8GB RAM. Very compact and great keyboard with the trackpoint and trackpad, if I ever need another laptop I'd get another without hesitation. Didn't run hot and the battery seemed to last forever.

My work laptop is an X220 and it's great although I can't help feel it's a little chunky.

That's probably because my personal laptop is a Macbook Air, the benchmark for small laptops IMHO.

Thanks guys! The Lenvo's do look a bit ugly as such but I will check them out, appreciate the replies. :)

Agree re the Mac, just a whole different price range. Looking to spend as little as possible given my track record for losing things....

I use an HP ProBook 5330m for work and it's great. i5 processor, nice screen and even backlit keys! It looks like one of those thin iMac thingies, with a 13" screen:

I would buy one for personal use if I didn't have a house to buy!

The X220 is quite expensive too though and so are the Edge ones from Lenovo. You can get something like an E320 but they are not really on the same level of portability of the X220 or Air. I use mine for PenTesting but if I could do the same on my 13" Air I would, lovely laptop.

I'd still try and hunt down a 13" refurbished/second hand air. There are a few in the classifieds and there was a X220 but I think it sold (was considering it when I saw it and let my E320 go but stopped at the last minute).

That was probably my X220  went for £475 on eBay in the end. Someone got a bargain there!

I was looking through your past posts to find out because I too think it was your X220 and yes someone definitely did get a bargain!
