Stupid things people do.

Yes and I have, a tiger too
Lion's fur is quite course compared to the silky softness of tigers

Yes. Well through the wire on the TP WHF Photography day several years ago. Lion, tiger and snow leopard iirc.

All at our own risk and under the watch of the keeper/guide. We were warned against going near the enclosures for some of the cats though as they had a reputation.

Oh, you don't need to go into the enclosure for that.
There's several documented cases of big cats removing the limb of someone who stuck it through the bars.
Surviving that is not guaranteed.

Look but don't touch when we did a tiger experience a couple of years ago at DZP. Even when the cat was lying with her back up against the fairly fine weldmesh at the back of the bar "wall".

Five Live had a recording of it this morning but didn't play it, saying only that there was the sound of lions and people and then the sound that would be made when someone was bitten by a lion. [emoji16][emoji16]

I've done the same. I was 'ranger for the day' down some big cat place in Kent. Great day!

WHF? (now The Big Cat Sanctuary)

I think it must have been.

I bought it as a gift for my mum one year and my wife ended up buying me the same so we could all go down together. I'll dig some photos out later.

It was a bit scary going into the tiger enclosure and cleaning up its poo!

One look at those teeth would convince me to keep myself a decent distance away, I've seen what a domestic cat can do!

That tiger I'm feeding was massive. I was stood in the back enclosure where they lock them up and there was a 1m walkway down the length of the building. I went in, and I'm pretty big mind, and this tiger started to get down and start spitting at me. The growl that came out of this beast was just ridiculous. So I'm thinking it's backing down as I'm stood towering over it but then in the blink of an eye it launched itself up at the single ply mesh with its paws bigger then my head at either side of my shoulders and it's mouth wide open ready to rip my head off!!! I jumped back straight into the wall and for that split second I thought I was tiger food. I still have that image Imprinted on my brain - it's there clear as day whenever I want to think about it - and I'm pretty sure there's a imprint of me on the wall as well!

God help these poor people that get mauled by these animals. They're truly something else!

I probably shouldn't admit to this but I've done something pretty daft myself at a zoo in Switzerland :D
Only with European wildcats tho a small cat a bit bigger than a domestic moggy
I was photographing one about ten feet away and grabbed the mesh to steady the camera with my right hand
The other cat in enclosure crept up and gave my hand a good swipe made me jump and gave me a good scratch I didn't do that again :D

My daughter went in with one about 4 yrs ago while in Thailand :wideyed: (nearly gave me a coronary when I saw the photo!)

I'd put rather a lot of money on that tiger being tranquilized.

Constant drugging for tourist photos wouldn't be doing the tiger much good. :(

Go on, tell us the story. Your daughter looks nice but she's not 'can't get mauled and eaten by a massive tiger nice'!

There was a huge controversy over this a few years back, if these are the Temple tigers and it has now closed down.
I was looking into going there until I did some research and found out what was going on :(

Not saying it wasn't & I actually asked the same, but..............

BTW, she was laughing at her hubby who was backing away while taking the pic.

WTF!?!? Has it has a personality transplant with a mouse or something?

I don't get it?!?

I've held/stroked cheetahs a few times, but these animals were hand reared from orphaned cubs. Cheetahs aren't nearly as powerful as lions or tigers, or even leopard, and I've never had any dodgy moments, but they can turn on people and cause quite nasty injuries.

So can domestic cats and dogs! IIRC, Cheetahs used to be used for the same thing as greyhounds were bred for.

I've held and played with a Lion cub at some big cat rescue place in Spain. It was caged with a monkey and when the place shut they took it out for us. It was bigger than a domestic cat and really chunky and powerful even as a cub.

I know...we've shared our lives with several cats, including a feral kitten my wife 'rescued' in Hong Kong and adopted. Pixie was more like a miniature version of a Scottish Wildcat! AFAIK, cheetahs are still used to course game in the Middle East and North Africa?

Yip. I've played with lion cubs too, and bottle fed orphans. They're strong, even as youngsters. The cheetahs were adults, rangy and fast, but lack the muscle and power of their cousins.

I've been told Cheetahs are the most bideable of the big cats, only met one at Eagle Heights in Kent
when they used to run it on a wire and it ran straight into me whilst I was trying to get a head on picture.
Did here that later whilst they were walking it on a leash in a neighbouring field it bit the handler on the leg.
I know last time I was there the cheetahs had gone :(

Cheetahs imprint easily on humans.
It's the reason wealthy Middle East gentlemen prize them as "pets".
It doesn't make it right.

No, I didn't suggest that it does.
