Stupid! Stupid! STUPID!

I've, so far, had SEVEN new power supplies for my LaCie external disk, plus 3 for another one, and each time it fails it exhibits the symptoms the OP mentioned. I now have three spare supplies, free from LaCie, just in case. They are hopeless beyond belief, but won't admit they have an issue. Mind you, the fact that they'll send out 13 free power supplies without question for one disk IS an admission as far as I'm concerned.

I connected with a cable...

It didn't want to know...I tried an old IDE drive which did work, so thought my luck was out...Same noises with the broken drive as it was in the casing. Decided to...erm...give it a little TAP!...And it started spinning! And it works! Ha ha ha! Backing up now before trying it back in the casing...

Who's a very lucky boy then?

Fantastic news!

Heather

Ah ha- excellent news Craig. Not been in this section for a while- just posted a thread and saw yours so glad there was a happy outcome:)

Now, while I'm here I'll promote some editing shenanigans for you to potentially participate in ( or anyone else for that matter):D

Oh yeah, and get some back ups of back ups my man:)

I got home 5 hours ago to find we'd been burgled and the scum had taken the laptop (and the wifes car, games consoles etc)Thank god for livedrive! All my pics backed up.

That's pretty crap Phil, hope you get it all sorted out and keep positive.

Male Argentinian Dogo is the way forward:D

Cheers.

not been into the editing shenanigans for a while...been very busy with one thing and another (including a return to work after a long absence). Will pop back in soon enough...got some great geese to use. :)

Really good news to the OP, just don't run that disk down until you've got everything off

Not possible, to be honest. I have backed up all the RAW...was slow as it was external to external...not enough room on internal disc to store them in transit.
Now at work, and my laptop/disks etc. have to be moved to make space for the various visitors my youngest has during the day (physio, speech therapy, etc.). I don't have space for my own little workstation...:(

So anyway, the disc is off right now, but I do have the RAW backed up. :)

Sorry to hear this has happened, OP. This thread however may well provide the push I needed to get a more reliable backup than simply an external hard drive. Definitely going to look at either a NAS box or online backup now.

Well, it's prompted me to sort things better, too. I do have my stuff back, and it's still backing up now...I was lucky! :)

Hope your back ups go ok. :)

Cheers Dr O,
Alls fine after the initial shock. Had to look up the Dogo, looks like a mean beasty. Not sure the wife would be impressed :)
