Stupid Mistake!

The new Boeing 787 Dreamliner was doing a flypast at my local airport East Midlands this afternoon then a quick display over the RR factory just down the road from EMA. I drove out there to see it of course. Well I get out of the car, find a nice spot to photograph from, then turn my camera on. It was only then that I found I had left the ******* memory card at home as I came out in a rush!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :bang:
What a STUPID mistake that was. The most stupid thing I have done in nearly 10 years so serious photography. :bonk: The reason the card was at home is that I was loading pics from my Iceland trip onto my computer this morning and just never took the card out of the card reader.

Anyway it was still worth going. The 787 looks a little on the dodgy side in the pics I have seen but in real life it's stunning. :thumbs: That wingflex is out of this world!

Anyone else done this before?
 
keep a spare (cheap, small) card in your camera bag....
 
I do that normally but I didn't even have my bag. Just got in grabbed my camera and went straight to the airport.
 
i found out ten minutes before it went over had no transport so couldnt get to the airport but it flew over my house so at least i got to see it gutted wasnt at the airport.
 
Used to do it all the time when I was testing cameras. I'd have three or four cameras at a time and have to use one card to take the test pics...
 
been there done that..........well have turned up sans mem card.......

the advantages now of having a grip....... in which, lives a spare/emergency 4Gb SD card......

Where do you store a spare memory card in the grip? Curious?
Or do you put an SD card where the battery door is supposed to go?

What would be an ok inexpensive SD card for a 1DmkIII? I mean something just as a backup that is not really high speed, ie just a cheap one that would do the job.

Stick to lexar or sandisk and then go for the best card you can justify in their line up.
 
Suprisingly on my 1D MkII's i found that the SD cards were much quicker to clear the buffer than Sandisk Extreme 3 cards.

I done this on the way to a christening once! Made sure id wiped the cards etc the night before and left them in the card reader.

Had to stop into Maplin and pick up a card (only place open, enroute that sold them) £40 for a 2gb 40x Cf card!!!! Lesson most definately learnt lol.

I always run the 1d's with 2 cards and i have spare memory in my glove box and a card in each bag. Still worked out cheaper than my maplin card :( lol
 
I have a Lowepro camera strap with a card-carrying pocket thing on it. I don't use it, but it's there.
 
I did it a few years ago and had to drive to the nearest Argos to buy a card to get me out of the mire.

Not yet reached the stage where I've turned up somewhere in a hurry with a memory card but no camera. Only a matter of time though, I guess. :eek:
 
Did it a few months ago with my Canon compact during a walk down by the canal,all I had was my Minolta XD7 with 10 shots left on the roll of film,dont half concentrate the mind
 
I have spare cards and batteries in my bag, car, and various jacket pockets
 
Yep did it once myself.

Bought 2 extra cards. Ensure one formatted is always in my bag...
 
Forgetting the battery is worse.
That's something that you only ever do once. :lol:

or more than once in my case, luckily, it's been when I've been at the rugby club which is 2 minutes from my house, have gone out without charging them as well before. Forgotten memory cards quite a few times too, I'm always leaving them in the card reader!

At least you haven't got to an event and opened your bag to find you've left your body on the kitchen table at home :lol:
 
I always do it. I always intend on leaving my other 3 formatted memory cards in the little Sandisk pouch you get with Extreme 3 cards that's attached to the camera strap.
But no, they're sat on my desk at home. All 4 of them.

I really gotta stop doing it haha.
 
If it's any consolation I went to the Cholmondley Pageant of Power at the weekend to get some shots. Managed to go with 2 completely flat batteries!!! How stupid is that!:bonk::bonk::bonk:
 
+1 for the Lowepro camera strap - the little pocket on mine always has a spare memory card and the viewfinder blocking piece for nighttime long exposures.
 
On the battery grip there is a little slot which is meant for the battery cover, so you don't lose it. Yet you can fit a memory card in here instead ;)
 
Several times! I think that the challenge is to find someone who has NOT done it.

I have an old friend who was working at Smiths/GE when they were designing the wingbox structure and they were amazed at the projected wingflex with the design. It's really quite impressive that the technology for composite core structures is at the level where it is!

According to the Airbus guys I know, the A350 is apparently going to be even more extreme... it's been colloquially known as "the swan" due to its massive flex.
 
I might get a cheap SD card and stick it in one of the tiny pockets of my wallet. That way I will always have it with me. I'd probably forget the wallet then though! :lol:


It would be nice if cameras has some built in memory. Even just 1gig or so for emergancies.
 
I have never done that because I never take my 8GB card out of the camera, it also means I will never end up bending or breaking the pins either.

787 launched on July the 8th 2007, if i remember correctly.
I wonder why.
A lesson learned on the card front, A constant spare is the order of the day i think.

Jamie,

The grip for the Pentax K20D has a little door and tray in which a second battery can be installed. In addition those clever people at Pentax, made a slot to put a spare SD card, and a slot for the stupidly small IR remote trigger to live in when not being used........... you wouldn't believe the no of times i'd lost that before it got it's new home - it's also been through the wash - twice.......
 
1 in the camera :thumbs: 1 in the bag :thumbs: 1 in the car :thumbs: and i do use a card reader and have never gone out without one :suspect: honest indian
