just watched a used lens i wanted - Nikon 70-300 f4-5.6 AF G - pushed up to

£72.50 + £9p&p -------:cuckoo:

NEW from OSD for £86.74 free deliv...........:shrug:
 
lol yeah that used to happen all the time, i havent been there for years though.

Some people are just stupid when it comes to Ebay - I've sold loads of stuff on there for a healthy profit, despite starting bids very low :lol:

Must say i didnt know my fame would spread this far:cool:
Logged into ebay and saw lens with only 1 min rolling,so didnt have time to do homework.Im far from stupid as a apple engineer,well versed on hardware of mac sorts,but when it comes to photography a total novice,and could write on the back of a stamp what i know about nikon lenses,hence this is why i joined here to learn.We all have to start some were.:shrug:
Only had my nikon 3 weeks and bought this lens to force me out of auto mode,teach myself to focus on my own,was egged on by partner to buy and had only 45 secs to make mind up,if it didnt work for me would put back on ebay and lesson learnt,for this money a learning curve,if you want a real giggle partner then showed me a new sigma for money you were talking about:bonk:cheers partner:gag:
Must say it turned up today in as new condition,unmarked,lens perfect,not even a spec of dust.
Next time i buy a lens il ask you guys :love: as any help welcome,try to pass on what i know and could do with help:help:

seriously if you are new, ask away. I joined in November and have benefited from a LOT of advice !

It's a bloody minefield out there with Nikon lens.... just add a few simple alphabet letters like AF-S and the price jumps, or Al and it wont work :thumbsdown:
example - you mentioned the Sigma. The simple addition of the words APO mean you get a better lens for £50 more.... so a cheap price might not be the best lens......:bang:

I slowly coming around to buying Nikon lens only - b****r the price ....:D

I had my 17-55 for sale for a while on here, dropping from £575 to £560, only had a couple of bids of around £510. Stuck it on ebay and sold for £599 in a matter of days!

I agree - but it's a very good spot for Nikon newbies to get a feel of where to look next................IMO....:thumbs:

i tricked her into buying an AF lens as once she gets bored of focusing manually it will work nicely on my D200 :thumbs:

obviously now this wont happen as i have revealed my plan on here :bang:


so if any of you have something for sale that you think i might want i'll point her in the direction of your auctions :thumbs: cheers guys :lol:
 
Even good old Kenny had a dig at ebay buyers on his review:lol: But have to say we had a play last night and was happy with results,could pick out specs of glitter on my sons craft work,orchid was amazing,but focus very sensitive,to a novice like me:nuts:,but different depth of focus in pics outstanding,slightest touch and you could center in on smallest area of interest,spots on just 1 cm of space on petal:thumbs:
My very naughty partner[youve met him on past post and such a wind up merchant] who played with it most of night said the same.
Have to say also had a right giggle when i logged back in and saw all you guys posts :lol:

Sorry, have to disagree with YO! I would say that KR's advice is NO good for newbies - he admits that he makes a load of the stuff in there up for his own amusement and many newbies are unable to sort the good advice (I'm sure there must be at least a couple of bits there...) from all the BS. Treat him and his advice like you would Clarkson's on Top Gear - sometimes entertaining.

Mandie, next time you're after some kit, decide what you want then have a good look around to see what it's likely to cost you new or from a reputable dealer then look at e-bay and decide how much the peace of mind of new or warranteed 2nd hand is worth over e-bay prices. Enjoy your D40 and that lens - after all, if it's worth what you paid for it to YOU, that's what really matters!

agree to disagree - each to his own - I learnt a lot of technical data in his reviews so can now, hopefully, make a better choice

2nd paragraph....sound advice. and the route to follow
just to add - having establish a "bench-mark" price in eBay the third step would be to look in our Classified. As a newcomer I found lots of help buying a lens here.

Having waded through loads of bovine excrement there! As I said, there is some good advice in there among the BS but a complete newcomer to photography probably doesn't know enough to pick out the wheat from the chaff.

The top few paragraphs on his "About" page say it all, really.

i don't think Mand did too badly over that lens as there was another one finishing about 2 hours after the one she bought that sold for about a tenner more!
all anything is worth is what somebody is willing to pay for it!
so on the night she was buying that was the going rate :)
she did at least a tenner better than she would if she had logged on later :D

have read many "keeny " reviews so many different things,as Adam said we saw same lens on same night go for £10 more.Nod didnt have time,just had to make choice in 45sec window on ebay ,which is when i logged in,had max of 30 secs by the time id found lens.Have to say yardbent:wave: started this post he had no idear who i was.Fair play to him has been pure welcome since.watched his other posts and must say by no means a trouble maker.In fact very fab and happy to have joined info.Always first to embrace,good on you!:love:
