Off for a week camping in Wiltshire on Sunday. Other than stone Henge any one got any suggestions for days out (not just photo biased).

The one thing i want to do is go to a place called Bowood house which is where my grandma and grandad worked after the war, Grandad was a batman to the owner and he got him a job as chauffuer.

So any "must see" suggestions welcomed.

Bowood's a great place and stone henge is good for ten mins too. Avebury stone circle is usually more popular as you can get in with the stones and it's in a much more beautiful part of the country. 5 mins from my house. :D

A walk along the Ridgeway from the West Kennet bit is a lovely way to spend as much of a day as you fancy on your feet. Followed by a visit to the Polly Tea Rooms in Marlborough of course. ;)

Castle Combe is the worlds friendliest race circuit, if that's your bag and there's something on to go and see. Castle Combe village gets it share of visitors too, won "england's prettiest village" IIRC

If you're very daring you could pop over the border and spend a day/evening in Bath.

The thing about Wiltshire is there are few more beautiful places to be but in fairness, there's not all that much to do. If I think of any more "must see" bits though I'll pop back in here and add them. :)

Just seen your location, Calne is near Derry Hill isnt it? Dad used to ride one of the estates horses to school there every day from Bowood.

I've got sat nav and the site we are going to has wireless internet access for £5 a week so i can research any of your suggestions when we're set up.

I'm about 5 minutes from Bowood and they are one of my favourite clients. One of the most enjoyable jobs I've had is shooting the main house and terrace in the late evening light. To have the place to myself and spend an hour or so just sat on the terrace waiting for the light was pure bliss.

Longleat House and Safari Park is always worth a visit, if a little exspensive on admission.
Not a must see, but a must eat, if you like Indian food. The Spice of Asia, in Lyneham, is the nicest I've ever had.

Can't believe that hasn't been suggested yet ....

And of course Stourhead Gardens.
