Studio Slot or Studio Session

I have just took part in a Studio day which was a slot of one hour rather than a Session with multiple Photographers that shared the shoot time (which I am more used to).
There was no difference in cost in my opinion and got equal time in both, but what I do enjoy about the session type studio day is that you can have some good times with other photographers and share ideas and even go for a beer later.

Which would you prefer? and Why?

Reason I am asking is that I am hoping to supply some studio time with models in the near future (it will be advertised on here) and I would like to provide what the masses prefer.

The problem I've found with the Session with multiple togs is that often the lights will be set up, and the model posed, and the photographers are rotated, 5 minutes each, then change the lights/set/costume etc, rinse and repeat.
There is no chance to experiment, or to see what works for you and little opportunity to develop a style or "look" which is unique to you.
I'm not saying they all go that way, isn't enough time. But I've been on a few that do. They are fine to get to grips with the basics of how studio lighting works, but worthless if you want to get your own shots in your own style, as there

Personally I never felt that I couldn't experiment with my style. On the recent shoot I found it extremely difficult to change lighting, accessories and pose the model to get sufficient shots with in the hour where as in multi session we all seem to help each other out.

I think I know what you mean, and I think an option would be to have an assistant to hand to help with the changes.
This is all part of the learning process, being able to go in to a studio, and work efficiently in the time available.
I found it helps if I have 1 or 2 shots I specifically want to get out of the session in my head before going in to the studio, and aim to get those. Anything else would be a bonus.
IMHO it is better to come away with 2 brilliant shots than to come away with 20 so-so ones.
In my experience, I prefer to work that way, and if part of a group, it might be difficult to get your ideas out, because other people's ideas come into it, if that makes any sense?

On the flip side of the coin, it sometimes helps to have many hands to help out, and if you are stuck for ideas it's good to have some others to bounce ideas off.
Finally, the more sessions you have, the "easier" it becomes, as far as working the studio goes.

An hour is not a lot of time. I've spent all day in a studio before now, and still only come away with 1 really "good" shot !!

I found that the hour slot give me less than 30 minutes of shoot time and I had an assistant......paid £60 for the hour so I feel a bit robbed where as with the studio session I get a minimum of 3 hours for £80 and 2 models and no more than 9 other togs....

Problem is with that though in 3 hours even with 2 shooting areas each photographer gets 36 mins which includes setup time.

Financially as the studio owner it works better, but to me it would need to be a lot longer to get any individuality in the shots.

I find that the models are the winner...

It was run by the models...Studio hire was £100 for the day, They done Their own make up and hair. Therefore they had a gross intake of £1600....a tidy little sum if you ask me.....

Now where do I sign up to be a model:lol:
