Yes
I mainly shoot outside or use my Canon 580 speedlite MK I

I would like to get studio setup, can anybody recommend what equipment I should be looking at to get me started, and that I can add to it later if needed

Trying to do it without breaking the bank at the moment.

Let us know more about your needs Andy. It is just for studio or do you want to use them on location too (with battery packs)?

when i first started studio shots, i brought a bg support system, a white vinyl backdrop, and started using two speedlites..i got some alright results with that!

Lencarta do a number of kits all under £500. You could go for one of these and then buy a collapsible backdrop for £60.

I'm sure for £500 there are plenty of other options out there.

I know that it gets mentioned an awfull lot on here , but have a look at Lencarta . ( www.lencarta.com )
I have a 3 head smartflash kit and a vinyl backdrop and find it very good for in home use .
I know of a couple of people who also use it in a studio set up .
A 3 head kit with background support system would take you over budget though .
So a 2 head with softbox and brolley would be a good starting point that you could always upgrade later .

Stick with Lencarta. The Ebay ones are not as good - they are cheaper though.

Thanks for the excellent help.

So if I purchased the kit below, how do i trigger the flash heads ?
As stated above i have 580 EX or do i need some other triggers ?

Thanks Andy
Get this Lencarta radio trigger set - it has a mains powered receiver and is hassle free. Or, if you already have a radio trigger set, use that instead. Or get another make of radio trigger, it really doesn't matter - all that matters is that when you press the magic button on your camera, the flash goes off:)

You can use your hotshoe flashgun to trigger the lights as long as you disable the pre-flash (if you don't, the pre-flash will trigger your studio heads before the shutter has opened) but a radio trigger is a better option, and much more reliable.

You would be best with a wireless trigger for the lights, that Lencarta have or you could find an alternative wireless trigger.

Hi,

I just seen this and wonderd about your comments on this

Ebay Item 180811507111

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180811507...07111&_sacat=See-All-Categories&_fvi=1&_rdc=1

That set may just be fine if you are wanting to get a cheap lighting kit for messing about with and enjoy using, but with your budget you can spend on a good quality set from one of the more well known brands. The set you have linked to will have limitations for building up on with common fitting modifiers
