Studio set up.

So with christmas looming large on the horizon I am going to treat myself to something that I have wanted for a long time a studio set up! Lights, backdrop ect, preferably portable. The only problem that I have is knowing what equiptment I need to get going, decent brands ect and how much would I be looking at to get going? Budget say £500 enough?
Your thoughts and ideas would be a big help!
