Hello,

I have a 50D with 24-70, 70-200, 85 1.2, Sigma 17-70 lenses. I've done a few location shoots with all natural lighting. Now I am planning to buy Studio strobes to expand my skills.

I have a definite budget, but dont know what to get.

I can spend upto 1500$ on this.

Please help me.

My needs are as follows:

1. Location as well as indoor.
2. Full body shots
3. Single model or max two models.
4. 1500$ to spend
 
Using a dollar to pound conversion of 0.6 you have about GB £900.

If you want lights for studio and location work you will need lights with a battery pack, this will be most of your budget gone.

You need to decide where the bulk of your shooting will be and this will dictate which kit to go for.

If mostly studio, there are plenty of studio light suppliers look through the posts at peoples reviews. Then you will need background and light modifiers.

If on location you could get away with Strobist gear, check out flash in the pans post in advertisers section or here.

Thanx for the reply! I blieve at the moment I should only look for indoors as that would be my prime work at the moment. Will add a Batery pack later.

Good lights but i wouldnt touch them, if you notice they are coming from India, you will probably have to pay big bucks for delivery.

Your best bet is probably Alien bees

They have just started a Australian partner.

Read good reports on US photo sites, check them out...

Honestly I dont like how AB looks :p the reason I m looking for some other brands. I had contacted that seller just before posting this. I'm waiting for his reply. Let's wait 'n' watch. If nothing would look feasible I think I'd buy AB by tomorrow then.

They seem to sell the usual makes Lastolite, Elinchrom etc...

Not sure how close they are to you ... :shrug:

I have got a reply from the seller I said above. He quoted me 40USD shipping for single strobe and free shipping if I buy two (which I intend to)

He also have 135cm softbox which once a guy recomended me for 190USD.

I think I should buy that setup. Any suggestions?
 
I looked at the ebay link and he wants 910USD for 2 heads only, you will need stands, softboxes, umbrellas, triggers etc..

If you go for this Elinchrom d-lite 4 kit
for $1295 you have change for other bits you might need, Background etc..

You get the full kit ready to go...
Also you have a company to complain to if things go wrong (Warranty).

Oh Yes, I have asked him the same question. He told me that it comes with softbboxes, cables, in-built recivers and stands. But stands are heavy so hes asking 25USD for shipping of stands.
 
If your happy with it, then go for it...

Let us know how it goes and show us some pics with the kit...
