Hi guy's, I'm new to the forum:) I am on the look out for some studio lights I have been told the lencarta smartflash with soft box's would be the best for my budget £350 to £400. I want some lights that I can create shadow and shading effects with, so I just wondered would this be the set to do this. I am totally
new to lights so any help would be great. I am just trying to get as much info as I can before buying. I tried to phone lencarta a few time's but I got no answer' so I have been abit worried about buying direct from there site.

Cheers

Jason

My usual as a starter kit is the SmartFlash with one softbox and one umbrella, that's £320. And add a radio trigger set if you don't already have one, £40.

That kit is IMO more versatile than either the twin umbrella or the twin softbox kit. But please don't hesitate to phone for advice.

I'm a bit concerned if there was no answer during normal working hours, it can be engaged but it is always answered. As from now until the 9th June, although it's normally me who deals with customer queries, you'll be speaking to Michael Sewell, as I am about to go away.

Morning Garry, thanks for your reply. I rang them on Saturday dinner but I just kept getting directed to a mobile phone then still no reply. Do you think this kit would be ok for the kind of pics I want to do, portraite/toy photography. I see alot of pics on the net shadowed shaded and pics were half of someones face is blacked out, would these lights create these affects, hope this makes sence.

Cheers

Jason

Hi Jason,

I spend my Saturdays (and Sundays) out shooting. I answer the phone if I happen to hear it, but hearing protection means that I'm unlikely to hear it... Just going out to play now:)

Yes, that kit will be fine, as long as you can, if necessary, introduce some dark (a piece of black card is fine) to 'reflect' dark areas where you want them.

Hi Garry just a quick question about the radio trigger, I just wondered what it does have been trying to read up but I just cant find anything.

Cheers Jason...

It's basically a very simple 1-way radio. The transmitter fits into the camera hotshoe, and when you press the magic button the hotshoe causes it to send a signal.
The receiver plugs into the back of one of the flash heads, when it receives the signal from the transmitter it closes a contact and fire the flash.

Any other flash heads act as slaves (they have a sensor built into them) and fire immediately, so you don't need a separate receiver for each head.

Been reading some of your posts with real interest Garry. Im going to be in the market for a lighting set up in probably about 3 months time. I will be in contact
