What triggers are available for studio lighting (and portable off camera flash units)?

Looked on eBay, but so many to choose from... Whats the deal?

As I understand it you get cable, infra red and radio. Radio is preferred as it's not 'line of sight' like IR and you can have several channels. However I use IR (Elinchrom Prolinca) and have never had a problem with it.

Skyport and Pocket Wizard radio triggers seem to be quite highly thought of, and although I don't use them I know a ouple of Togs who do, and they haven't got a bad word to say about them.

Get your wallet out...and prepare for some open wallet surgery! IR triggers are around £50 and work fine for me...though I'm sure someone will be along to rip me apart for saying that and tell you that you must use radio

Don't rule out wired. If you can deal with the cable hanging off your camera then it's a sure-fire triggering method.

IRs are fine in a studio, everywhere else Radio is best

I use Skyports, they are as good as PWs for what I need and half the price - I have had cheaper copies before, binned them as too unreliable

Fair point Dave, I must say the though of using them out of the studio hadn't crossed my mind as that's the only time I do use them

I have the Interfit IR trigger and it works perfectly with the Interfit EX150 lights:clap:
