Oh wow, the price of the Bowens travel pack is expensive, isnt there an easier, cheaper more crazy solution?

What would happen if you bought a £50 12v to 230v inverter capable of 600w constant and 1500w surge and hooked it up to a decent car battery?

You'd probably kill your lights, unless you can get a pure sine inverter for 50 quid.....

Even a 600W pure sine wave inverter with a high Ah battery will not work with Bowens heads... I've tried it on my 500Rs. The initial current draw is too much and alarms the inverter (and that's a 1000W peak inverter too). You have to think about it as the price of a head really. The Travelpaks just... well... work!

look up an invotronix xplorer, I was looking at one for powering a single monobloc (now considering the vagabond route) They list what they will/won't work with soi could be worth a quick check?

I bought that Calumet head and pack last weekend to go with my quadra.

Highly impressed. Better than the specs would tell you, as they are based on the 110v version. Full recharge in under 2 secs.

Doubt 300 watts would be enough to overpower the sun ***.
If I was gonna invest in some location lighting for the beach ect would like an alien bee 1600 or a good ring flash.

:)

The B1600 and vagabond (600 w/s) will only give you a stop over my Calumet (300w/s); even less than that over my quadra (400w/s). A stop in full bright sunlight will help, but the difference is certainly not night and day. Plus I dont have the muscles/assistants to carry it.

The Elinchrom ranger 1100 w/s would only gain you another stop over the Bee, but if I wanted to overpower sunlight (which I dont), that's where my money would be heading.

I can never under stand this comment, Anyone mains is not pure any how.
Most circets in any electronice have such a circuit that no mater what mains you get it will not matter.

I have run PA equment on one in my entertainment with no problum and I can tell you if you have bad mains on PA gear you will know it.

I think it is put about by the sellers wanting you to pay lots of money for what amounts to the same thing but built in to the flash heads.

Most electronics will be working on low voltage and the mains is dropped but a circuit that will one provide the right voltage and will also smooth it as required.
This is standard for most equipment.
