Im setting up my own studio and on a tight budget and have seen that I can get a studio lighting kit from £250 upwards.I will be doing portrait, model folios, products etc and will probably need to use it at least 3 or 4 days a week. 4 lights n white and black background.

My question is, if I got myself a £250 studio kit set up,will it break after a while. If so, can anyone recommend me a studio kit that is under £1000 or even better £500 that will do the job and last. Thanks.

no experience of this im afraid but i will be very interested to see the replys

Please see this quick intro on how to choose studio lighting.

And please take a look at the Lencarta ElitePro Starter kit. If you scroll down the lighting forum page you'll see that I'm now working for Lencarta (sort of). I don't think this will affect the quality of my advice but this is something for you to judge.

There are nothing wrong with the £250 studio kits, if they are going to get light use. However if you are expecting to shoot 3-4 days a week, I would recommend going for probably Bowens or Elinchrom kits. They are good value for money, and will probably outlast you.

I have owned both Lencarta and Elinchrom kits, and have used Bowens.

I bought one of the Lencarta kits early last year, after looking at many entry level kits from various people. I find it to be great value for what it is, works well, reliable & nice touches such as supplying spare fuses & flash sensor covers. Not top of the range kit, but not top of the range price.
Worked faultlessly for me on the few occations it's been used

I'm glad you like it, I was recommending it long before I became involved with the Company simply because it's the best there is of its type - but the new range (link in my earlier post) that was launched in October is in a different class all together and is much more versatile.

I looked at the Interfit etc. for similar money & it just seemed the best value. I suppose the only thing I could knock was the lack of any form of instructions or lighting technique guide with it being a entry level kit, but I soon learnt the basics.
