Iain you might as well come to my house if you want and I'll give you a lift. I know where it is now and no point in wasting fuel.

Have you thought about booking the fashion one for October?

1 vacancy for Saturday.

Unfortunately someone has had to drop out of the portrait/artistic nude workshop this Saturday, 7th August

So the first person to click here and take the space gets to put up with me for a day:)

Just a quick post to say what a fab day, learned loads today, great model, thanks Cassie and great tuition from Garry. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn about lighting in a studio.

Anyone booking this is in for a crackin' day, Gary keeps it simple which is the
way i like things. Great day all round and thanks again to Ed for putting his
place up as a prize and more to the point for picking my shot so i could go...

.

OK, some good news:)
As you know, these lighting workshops are always seriously oversubscribed and there's nothing that I personally can do about it because there is a limit to the number of days that I can devote to this.

Also, although my studio in Bradford is bang in the middle of the country, it isn't convenient to everyone.

Anyway, to get to the point, a very talented photographer has now come on board and he will be hosting some of these sessions in the south; no dates or venues yet but it's definately going to happen, which means that there will be more sessions available and they will involve much less travelling for people who don't live in God's own county:)

Great News, will look out for further info when available

But I do, and it is "Down South". Anyway, having been to one of the first sessions I would like to have another bash especially nearer home.

Garry, any chance of some specific portrait set ups being done, rather than just the fine art nude stuff ? I recognise that many people like taking the opportunity to get some fine art stuff work in their portfolio, but a good understanding for portraits would be really useful to most, as that's what they're most likely to use their lights for.

Steve,

The ones at my studio alternate each month betweeen portrait/fashion and art nude. I don't have details of the ones 'doon sooth' yet by I expect they will be similar

What exactly does a 'down south' location indicate. It would be great if Garry , or his talented sidekick, could be persuaded to come this way - say Birmingham - I know the ideal, spacious studio with several shooting locations, if you are looking? I could help locally if wanted.

I am keen to get to grips with Garry, ( his knowledge really ) , and yet to get some serious lighting equipment.

Well, Birmingham isn't exactly "doon sooth", most of the people who come to my studio travel a lot further than that.

AFAIK the details aren't finalised yet but the Doon Sooth days are likely to be in Kent.

Any idea when the next Art nude will be Garry? I'm hoping to attend.
I think the first training day in the South will be portrait, not art nude but I'm not sure. The next art nude at my own studio will probably be something like March/April

I like the sound of it being in Kent, although covers a fairly large area

Will definitely be watching with great interest.

Well it's a million miles away (175 actually) but I've just booked for the next Lencarta course on Product Photography as it's exactly what I do for clients at work and I'd really like to improve :)

Had to get permission from the wifey first mind... I now owe her a day off in the week!

I've a funny feeling there's going to be an announcement about the Southern Chapter really soon.......

I hope so, that has to be sorted out with the boss - but I have a funny feeling that the Southern Chapter has more sense than to do product photography.

But I suppose it isn't premature to name the new victim:)
he's called Jonathan Ryan. I'm told that he's better than me.

Why do you say that Garry, tricky or just not as popular?

I did see a southern location was going to be sorted out but read it may well be in Kent which isn't that much closer TBH...

I'm looking forward to the product photography one although both the others were really rather good too :)

Less popular certainly, I wouldn't say that it's tricky but 'product photography' is a very broad subject and needs a far wider range of different approaches than people photography.

It's greatest strength is probably also the reason why so many people hate it - the photographer is totally responsible for the outcome - we can't blame the subject for not cooperating, lack of time, bad makeup, or anything else. If it's less than perfect then it's our fault.

But for people who can do it well and who enjoy the challenges, it pays well:)

OK, I've just spoken to the boss and it seems that Mr. Jonathan Ryan has kindly volunteered his services on Sunday 28th November, in Maidstone. Thereafter once per month, although there may be a break during the worst of the winter as it's a well known fact that southerners don't cope with snow well:)

I don't have details of times, venue etc yet but I'll get the website updated with them as soon as I have them. All that I do know is that apart from Jonathan and his model there will be room for 8 people. I expect that it will fill up as least as quickly as the ones I host. Details will be here as soon as they are available

OK, I now have the details, please click here

Jonathan is a very talented photographer and, unlike me, is a nice guy too. Don't miss it!

Excellent... though only 20 miles closer!

Come early and use the gym!

Joking apart, it's a jolly nice hotel and you could make a weekend of it. Leeds Castle is near and there are shops and stuff at Bluewater if you're into that kind of thing.

I suspect that I've negotiated a "special overnight rate for delegates" but I'd be amazed if it's cheaper than you can find on the web.

Have just signed up. I have family in Rochester so will stay with them for the weekend.

Jonathan, will pop you a PM later.

Steve

Half the spaces now booked after just 10 hours...

And no Jonathan, you won't be getting one of the new JumboPara toys to teach people with:)

Just booked a place for the Portrait Studio lighting workshop

Garry is there no plans to have one further up.. like Edinburgh or Glasgow everybody seems to forget about us up here :help: I would certainly do the 3 hour trip I am from Aberdeen and I am sure there are many more of us that would be interested..

James,

I'd very happy if Lencarta could arrange some of these days in central Scotland, but apart from the cost of putting even more courses on (Lencarta loses a fair bit of money on them) there would be the problem of finding a suitable photographer to actually run them.

I've just booked a place too.

Looking forward to it!

Rich.

By the way, if anyone is considering coming from Norfolk direction - I can offer a lift!

Oooooooo. Two big boxes of toys just arrived for me to play with.

Err, I mean "two boxes of high quality lighting accessories arrived for me to demonstrate at the training day".

But they are pretty big boxes.

Oh and I'm loving the "soft social photographer" mod they have made to the folding softboxes.

What's that you say Skippy? 2 places left on the course AND it's guaranteed 26.4% more fun than Mr Edwards? Sweet!

Don't worry chaps - I've been out practising with some of Lencarta's toys. It appears they can be persuaded to do cool stuff.
