Studio lighting courses in the south east

Does anyone know of any decent studio lighting courses available in the south east, preferably in the Buckinghamshire area, any feedback much appreciated :)
 
Thanks Garry, that looks very good just a bit short notice for this Sunday, Jonathans work looks very good too, i'm sure i've seen his work somewhere before, will this same course be running anytime in the near future ? also whats the maximum amount of people allowed on these courses ? can't see anything on the website indicating the amount.

It's a maximum of 8 per course.
As part of our commitment to helping photographers to get the best from their lighting equipment, we host regular subsidised lighting workshops . This lighting workshop will take place on Sunday 25th September 2011. To ensure that everyone gains as much .as possible from their intensive lighting workshop, attendance is limited to 8 people per session.

Arrival is at 9.15 a.m. for a 9.30 a.m. start and the day will finish at 5 p.m.
It will be running again in October and November, then there will be a break until April, assuming that they run next year - don't know yet.

The situation last year was the these lighting courses were seriously oversubscribed and people often had to wait months to get on one. The demand this year is much lower (maybe the recession, maybe because just about everyone and his dog seem to be offering courses this year) and although Lencarta has always been prepared to provide them as a service they do need to come somewhere close to covering their costs...

Sorry, no.
There's a limit to what can be done, and people do travel to get to these lighting workshops. On the last one at Bradford for example, we had people from Ireland, Essex and Leicestershire. In the past we've had people from as far North as Aberdeen, as far south as Cornwall and as far west as somewhere completely unpronouncable:)

I'm not really looking for an evening course at this time due to other commitments, but it may be something i would consider in the future :)

That seems a reasonable amount of people, i was trying to see if i could juggle things about to maybe attend this coming Sundays course, the only thing that concerns me is Jonathan mentions it will be taking place outside weather permitting and at this moment in time i am looking to learn more about indoor studio photography, so maybe this isn't really the course for me right now unless I'm missing something or misinterpreting it.
 
I can check with Jonathan if you like, but my guess is that the plan might be to do a little bit outside, weather permitting. This is what I did on my last one, we had time available so spent about half an hour doing some outdoor shots with the Safari Li-on.

Thanks Garry, but i've just seen he has a course on the 30th October which that date will suit me just great so i'm going to book that one up :)

I was just checking through my notes for Sunday when Garry alerted me to this thread. I generally run these as an indoor lighting course. We use Elite Pros and Smartflash (everybody seems interested in those due to the price point) with a variety of modifiers. The emphasis is on understanding how light works and applying theory to real world situations.

Earlier this year I asked Garry about outdoor courses using the Safari mainly because I know a really cool location. We added that line as a kind of "well, let's see" description. So far all the Lencarta courses have been indoors though I've run one for another firm in what could politely be termed a hurricane.

However, just yesterday one of the delegates on Sunday's course got in touch. He's been on a previous course and was keen to do some outdoor stuff. I'll charge up the Safari and if the beautiful weather holds we'll spend some of the afternoon in the hotel's garden. I think I'm relatively unusual in using lots of big modifiers on location and we'll be seeing that actually they work just the same outdoors as indoors.

So that's a long way of saying "what Garry said - mostly indoors but a chance to play in the fine weather". Either way we'll be looking at techie stuff and taking lots of pictures.

But remember "other training courses are available...".

Thank you for answering that for me Jonathan, it certainly sounds like a good mix of indoor outdoor tuition, on a side note do any of your courses cover on/off camera speed-lights ?

Not at the moment ;)

I believe that market is pretty saturated with some great courses (and some not so great) already. I wouldn't rule it out for the future but I'd want a company to sponsor it and most of the likely candidates have trainers already.
 
Hi guys, really interested in this thread, and possibly the course on Sunday!
Sounds like an ideal mix of a day as I'm needing real life experience with flashes...
