studio lighting and backdrop

i wonder if anyone can help,

I am going to be setting up a project of doing some dog portraits.

I need some lighting equipment to do this? ( i will probably take the equipment to peoples houses)

What is everyone using? i want something that is going to last and give a good outcome but not too expensive, i need a good white backdrop and some good studio lighting equipment?

I am using a nikon d300 and i do have a good useable flash gun,

can anyone help me out with what there using? or and where i can get some good equipment from?

If you want a high key background, one light won't cut it for you. Realistically you're going to be needing a few more strobes, perhaps have a look at the cheap Yong Nuo lights one ebay as an option, they will slave off each other,

However, just bear in mind that for pets you may be better off with some continuous lighting rather than speedlites, perhaps something like the Lastolite Radi8 or the Bowens Coolites?
 
Why on earth would anyone want to use continuous lighting for pet portraits?

Studio flash seems to me to be the obvious solution - modelling lamps, the ability to use any kind of modifier, plenty of power and near-instant recycling.

Studio flash is the obvious solution, but the o/p has speed lights. Hence the suggestion.
