Afternoon,

Looking for some advice for studio flooring.

I have an 8x7 Lastolite Hilite and trying to set a solid floor that will light without too much photoshop work.

have got the the vinyl train and was looking at using acylic which has been suggested in other threads.

However i have some whiteboards/noticeboards that offer an element of relection but possible not enough.

before i scrap this idea, what i wa thinking of doing was creating a framework to screw these whiteboard down to keep them raised above the bottom of the hilite and to also keep them boards in place, an issue was that i have the joins and wasnt sure the best way to cover these, and also there would be screw holes to cover, so thought i could fill these but obviosuly they will stand out in shots.

So what are my options with painting the boards and fillers with a white gloss, has anyone used a glossed floor? how would this appear in shots?

any advice would be great, thanks

Edinburgh Gary uses a couple of sheets of perspex, white white paper under neath for his nice shiny floors. From Wickes IIRC, needed a couple of sheets.

My understanding is that he uses MultiPanel - see here for details : http://www.multipanel.co.uk/multiPanel/multipanelthelux.asp and it's the gloss white one. I'm sure he'll be along soon enough to confirm.

I have used acrylic for all my white BG shots (see www.benhodsonphotography.com for examples) and it works well. The joins require PP in the reflections as there is always a slight change in the reflection. This can be minimised by using masking tape on the underside to stick the joins together.

The biggest change I made was to paint the BACK of the sheets with a white gloss paint. This means you don't even need a white surface underneath. After about 20 shoots, they do really need to be replaced through due to scratches, marks, chips and cracks.

But having got a studio now I am going to end up getting some multipanel sheets as they are more durable and offer a better, flatter surface to work on.

I have looked at the multi panel sheets, but as i am looking for a practice setup i didnt want the extra expense of them.

The white boards i have came in ideal as they are a large size and two of them together makes a great white floor, my only issue is that i had to remove some framing from them and as a result it slightly chipped them, so what i was enquiring about was if anyone had used a white gloss to create a flooring, as i think i am going to have to paint all the whiteboards so that i dont have a difference in colour., would white gloss be best or is there a paint that would give a better finish

Would white gloss still give me an effective flooring?

looking for any suggestions that keep my cost down.

have looked at acrylic but cant transport a large enough piece, but if i really get stuck may have to opt for two pieces and photoshop them, something i really wanted to avoid

I'm installing my studio floor tonight, so will post pics tomorrow!
I'm using white laminated hardboard...

there is a multi panel distributor close by so going check them out, has anyone helse used multi panel? the panel sizes are not big enough and just wondered if i got two what the joins would be like?

thanks

The easiest and cheapest is a sheet of perspex from B&Q, you can do loads with it, put things under it etc... If you buy 2 sheets you can do a perspex/paper/perspex sandwich and under-light (light) things (although I now have a few offcuts from a sign maker for this)

The downside is it scratches easily. this isn't the end of the world, as it is cheap

bought the multi panel in the end, it looks good and now just need to get the settings right now
