Hello

My Lencarta studio equipment has arrived today and i plan t set it up this weekend and start playing around with layouts and settings.

Just wondering about a few things, still learning but hope to be able to do portraits at some point, what i was was woddnering if i have the lights all set up do correctly and i want o move in closer to the subject do i need to reposition all lights? cos surely i would get in the way??

Secondly, been looking at a lot of portraits examples to get ideas and another issue i was thinking about was on some portraits you seen a head cropped so says a babies head is in the top right corner of the photo. would this be planned as the photo is taken or once i start to preocess the images do i then crop the image show this? so bascaiyll do i crop when i take the photo or afterwards?

Thanks, im sure i will be back with more queries but any advice on those would be great.

thanks

Ha, good point, was trying to get the post quickly cos missus wants us to watch tv together and had to get the thread posted before i forgot.

Sadly even with my excitement i wont be able to set up until the weekend.

If you have the lights set correctly you should hbave no problem
Also you can use the zoom on your lens to get closer.

Composition should be done in camera although cropping may help the final image. If you decide when cropping that's what you want fine but you could be throwing valuable pixels away. Get it right in camera if you can.

Just had a quick look at thise links, and from some of the diagrams it shows the camera with a flash behind them, does this not create shadows?

The flash at the back is a fill flash usually set to a lower output than your main and it removes or lightens shadows created by the main light.

thats what i was thinking.

probably a stupid question but if i have a fixed lens of 50mm can i zoom with that or not???

No just move forward and back :)

i guessed that as well but just wanted to check as the lens hasnt arrived yet

Better to learn how to use the camera first :) Any decent standard lens will do for studio work, You generally shoot at f8 where most lenses are sharp.

Happy with using camera just learning different aspects

Garry Edwards has offered some training days at his studio part funded by Lencarta. £30 per person for a group of 8, there are 4 dates on their web site might be a good idea now you have got the kit to get some training from the main man himself.

I've booked a day :D

Good advice
