Hi I have a pair 750 gemini pro lights for my studio well thats when i manage set it all up. Question being looking for a backlight, do i really need one with so much power. I read in a posting that there may be a colour difference if i use another make. Any help would be grateful

You usually don't need so much power for effect lights, and I wouldn't worry about any colour shift. If there is one, it will be very slight - least of your worries.

But you may find that the cost saving isn't huge, and it's always nice to have power in reserve, as a spare or whatever.

Could you suggest a good 3rd light, what do you think to a Bowens 500 cheers

Studio flash is studio flash TBH. It flashes, it works. If it's got the power you need, and the control you want (ie the ability to turn it down over a good range) and uses the same reflector fitting, then get whatever.

Bowens, Elinchrom, Lencarta, all good and reliable. Others too.

elemental, lencarta or bowens will be your best bet, means you'll have the same mount for mods etc. Elemental trinity series is probably your best bet of the three, best spec and build quality almost certainly on a par with bowens, and good price.

750Ws is serious overkill, unless you're shooting complex still life sets with medium format (at least).
Don't forget that most modern digital cameras perform at least as well at 200 ISO as 5 year old models did at 100 ISO, so if push comes to shove the ISO can always be cranked up a bit. Except for these specialised needs, anything over about 600 Ws is pretty much obsolete and a waste of money, in fact for most needs, 300Ws is plenty.

Recycle time will be reduced however, running higher powered lights at say quarter power, if that's important to you.
