Hey!
have just registered here and so far am really liking! I'm looking for advice on buying a portable studio kit. I want something pretty good. Whats best brand to go for? Is 400w enough? What features should I be looking for? All help greatly appreciated. Ta

Hello and Welcome, wow staright in at the deep end.

Well i can't offer too much help 'cause I'm in the same boat and looking to purchase with my birthday money at the end of this month.

To give you and idea i am looking at the Elichrom d-lite2's at £399 or the Bowens studio in a box around £479

Have a look on warehouse express website there is a chap who does good reviews.

also try these

And depending on what your shooting this may help, taken by me a couple of weeks ago with only a flash gun on my camera no studio lights.

Hey Glen
thanks for quick reply and the links provided(what a little cutie!) Was veering towards elinchrom but will check out Bowens now too. Any other advice always welcome! By the way check out 7dayshop.com (if not already familiar). Great for deals incl 5in1 reflectors etc.
Thanks again

Thanks Phideaux!
Been doing lots of shopping around. Studiokitdirect are way cheaper than all other sites. Was wondering if there was a catch (service, reliabilty etc) obviously not. Good to know. They're now on top of my shopping list. Now just have to decide Bowens or ELinchrom!!! Ain't life tough??!!!

Oh you might be able to tell me about backgrounds then. Am looking a a lastolight collapsable. Are the trains a pain (wrinkles obvious in shots etc)? And do you really need the stand? Does propping it up against wall work or am I just cheap?!!!

Go for Bowens (this way I won't have competition for the used Elinchrom kit on eBay ;) ).

Can't help with lastolight as I've two very large 3x6m muslin backgrounds, one white one black, and a stand /support system.
