Wonder if any of you guys can help here.

My son is in his second year of University and they have moved out of the campus and are now going to be sharing a house - 5 of them.

The phone is at present disconnected and they will want broadband

One girl insists they need phone as well, but the others are happy to make do with their mobiles.

Once they get the line reconnected.. anyone know what company they should go with.... is there any chance of getting just broadband and no phoneline, will it be any cheaper?

Ideas please chaps.

Most mobile providers offer mobile broadband these days, relatively cheap, but they do not offer unlimited browsing and download allowance etc. and no fixed landline is required. Usually a max allowance of 3GB per month.

Also, the minimum contract is 12 months.

Providing they are in a 3G or faster area, then Vodafone seem to be very quick, as do T-Mobile...

Unfortunately, line rental on a landline will always be charged throughout the contract even though they may not want the phone service...

As for broadband providers, O2 seems to be the fastest and has the best feedback at the moment, providing they are in O2s catchment area..

Hope this helps in some way

I can fully recommend Sky's 16mb BB, although you need to have a Sky subscription to apply for it. And a BT landline too. Still, between 5 of them it shouldn't be a problem cost wise :)
