As the title suggests Im a student at university and Im studying automotive engineering w/Motorsport.

One fine afternoon at Silverstone with some friends I got to have a go with my friends camera taking pictures of various cars at the BTCC event. I really enjoyed it! Even more than watching some of the cars! As I was planning on going to this years WRC event in Wales, used to live in the area and now Ive moved out Im finally going to some stages! So I hastily bought a Canon 550D with the 18-55mm lens and got a great deal on it too. I wont say how much but I got the american model so it says T2i Rebel on it, makes me feel cooler!

Anyways, I go to the event after playing with my camera in my flat for a couple weeks, never got to go out with it, too busy with work! And I was amazed at what I could do with it! I caught the bug so to speak, even got a picture with my idol Ken Block, although unfortunately it was my friend, who knows nothing about photography, so its a bit blurry :/

So I get home and I look through my 2000 pics I took! I realised quite a few were duds but thats why I took so many, i figured the more I took the more chance I had that a few of them would be good. In the end I was really happy, for two reasons. Firstly it was my first time out taking pictures other than my laptop and flatmates (still some decent pictures though :)) and second because the WRC cars were travelling at 80mph where I was standing, and only a few feet away so they would come and go in a matter of 3-4 seconds!

But my story does not end there! With the motorsport seasons coming to an end the camera seem to become useless! But then I found out you can take pictures of stuff other than cars! For Christmas I went to Hyde Park in London, took some pictures of the swans and got a friend to take a picture of me as
a gift to my mum. Now she wants me to take pictures on Christmas day! Maybe a few videos also.

Apologies for such a long post! Im here to get some advice not only on taking pictures of fast cars but also some on portraits of family and friends :)
