Calm down folks, no pics in here, yet ;)

Am after a bit of advice first up if I can. I have a job looming that is basically as the title says. Client has new uniforms for their student nurses, and they want pics to highlight this fact to use in their promotional material etc.

It's likely that this will be a candidate for my first 'real' on location assignment using multiple off camera lighting too. So, because of this I'm a bit nervous also. But, after reading Joe McNally's latest book I'm dying to get out there and actually do something with it, so I've got to give it a proper go.

So, I guess I'm looking to you helpful lot for ideas/ pointers of set ups and poses. I don't know the full details yet, or exactly what the client wants, but there should be at least 5 'bodies' to play around with, and *hopefully* a contextual setting that looks like a hospital ward.

Gear - Quick sumary, I'll have the D3 with an array of lenses, 3 speedlights, coloured gels, shoot through brolly, 3 in 1 relector, and 2 light stands.

Speaking as a nurse i would say remember there not models and even if they have volunteered (in nursing they may not have had much choice in the matter) they might be very nervous and not know what to do.

getting them to do nursing type stuff might be most useful especially if you have a fake ward?
preparing medicines
writing on charts
making beds
any patients (even fake ones) they can take pluses off, be sat talking to?
 
In addition to Toothie's comments, perhaps a group photo around the hospitals logo or main sign in the reception or something? Though personally I'd like to see them actually doing tasks, as Toothie has already listed.
 
Folks in here looking for pics should not be overly excited as "nurse" covers both male and female.

Sounds like a great day out though ...lots of off camera, hot strobe action :p

Thanks Toothie! Useful stuff to bear in mind. Hopefully there will be a 'fake' ward setting, and I've no problem with the candid/ action/ doing type shots you describe, I do that sort of thing all the time.

It's the more 'posed' stuff I'm looking for advice on, as I don't do a huge amount of that, and the whole off camera lighting lark is new for me too but I'm dying to use it.
 
I agree they may be nervous so should be made to feel relaxed and at ease. To aid this, you may want to offer to get them a little drunk first.


*Disclaimer - again this is a joke in the style of a dirty old man/perv - please don't report me to the mods.
 
Seriosly, if you want a hand give me a shout. Lots of experiance with off camera lighting with small strobes. Have done quite a few group shots for corprate stuff.

do the situation stuff first it should help relax them a little :)
