Yes
After reading my way through strobist.com and really wanting to give it a crack, I have bought myself a 540FGZ for my K20.

I can remotely fire the 540 via my on camara flash fine but obviously this isnt ideal as I wont always want the light source from the on camera. I've read a few articles about kit but still feel a little unsure of exactly what I need.

I have been looking at Pocket Wizard IIs which look like they'll do the job, can someone please just tell me if this is what I need or If not, what it is I need?

Thanks for any advice. :)

It will do the job, but they are quite costly.

Have a look at Skyports

It's what I've been using for over a year and have never let me down and are a lot lot cheaper than PW's

Yeah they are a bit pricey, didn't really want to pay much and I think cables would really start to annoy me after a while.

I've heard skyports mentioned, i'll do some googling, thanks. :)

Just to start out with get the ultra cheap cactus triggers from ebay. They are only £15 for a set and whilst not amazing, they are good enough to get started. They allow you to get used to setting the power of the flash in different situations.

Agree with Olv, start with ebay triggers. If you start to want more distance from camera to flash, better reliability or durability then move onto Skyports or PWs.

On my D300 I can set the inbuilt flash to -3EV for remote flash and in 99% of situations it won't contribute to exposure. As the flashes communicate via IR (a component of the light from the on camera flash) you can also use an IR pass filter to cover the flash. This may not be the same for Canon. Nikon make the Nikon SG-3IR for this situation though.

This is all great advice, thanks folks.

I'll take a look at cactus triggers they sound like a good place to start before splashing out on something more expensive.

I think the internal flash on the K20 can only be dialled down to -2 EV. I'll take a look and double check tonight.

Thanks folks, this is exactley the kind of advice I was after. :)
