Hi all

I had a thread a couple a days back regarding a studio light problem, basically triggering the strobes via my on board flash works great now problem solved.

I've bought a pair of triggers so i don't have to keep using my cameras flash to set off the lights as above, but I've compared the 2 photos with each other and the external triggers are making my pictures very cold compared to using the on board flash... very warm, why is that?

In short: the pictures look better if I use the camera flash instead of the external triggers to fire the lights. How can I get the same picture? What am i doing wrong? I've just spent all kinds of money wondering if I should take them back :(

Thanks :)

The triggers have no input into the colour balance of the picture, what you've got there by the looks of it is the camera adjusting the white balance in the shot taken using the onboard flash

Thank FITP, that's what I thought, but I shot about 30 frames yesterday with different people at different angles just with the flash and all look warm like the first example. Today I've shot also 30 frames with different people and different angles with the external triggers and all very cold... no where near the quality of the first?

I'm also covering the on board flash so this is having no effect on the subject and the setting are exactly the same.

Any other suggestion? :)

Do a pre-set or custom white balance?

How do I get the camera to use the good(flash) WB settings so its the same when I use the external?

Whats that and how do I do it?

studio and lighting novice... any help much appreciated :)

There will be WB pre-sets on your camera (Sunshine, Cloudy, Tungsten, Flash etc), you could start with one of them so at least you get consistency across your shots. If you are still not happy you can then set a custom WB, I don't know what camera you use so have a look in the manual.

Ok cheers Hacker, I'll have a play around and see if I can solve the problem and get back.

Thanks again all :)

Just out of interest, those shots aren't from the shoot you were going to do at the lapdancing club.......are they? :naughty:

 Thats my mum above. Yes I remember you helped me on my last thread... that was about a year ago FITP :)

I ended up doing about 9 shoots with the lap dancers, turned out ok... I used my sb800 with an umbrella and triggered it from my camera, lucky enough I got the shots I was hoping for... good fun  I might be back their in a few weeks funny enough, I'll now have my new strobes to play with

Hard to believe but it got a bit boring after a bit... 3-4 hours shoots with naked girls :D though very frustrating getting some of them to pose and relax behind the camera... that was the hardest part.

thanks :)
